Schleierhaft

Seit ich mit der Daily-Painting-Aktion begonnen habe, hat sich meine Sicht auf die alltäglichen Dinge geändert.
Es häufen sich zum Beispiel die hopperesken Situationen. Wartende Menschen im Lokal. Fahrende Züge. Menschen am Straßenrand. Wartende Menschen in lokalen Zügen am Straßenrand. Das dritte Adventskalender-Fenster hebt den Schleier der Erkenntnis.

Since I started my daily paintings, my perspective has changed on the everyday things. E.g. Hopper-esque situations are increasingly approaching me.
People waiting. Passing trains. People on the roadside. People waiting for trains on the roadside.

Da kommen echte Finnen den langen Weg aus Finnland gerodelt und verkaufen geräucherte Socken, gestrickte Elche und geschnitzten Lachs.

Summerset

Unser kleines Keramikvögelchen, dem wir den Namen Summerset gegeben haben, trotzt in diesen stürmischen Zeiten Wind und Wetter. Standhaft steht er in seinem Blumentopf und harrt der Dinge, die da kommen. Ich hätte das Bild natürlich auch »3 Wetter Taft« nennen können.
Aber ich mache ja keine Schleichwerbung.

Our small ceramic bird proudly defies itself agains wind and wether in these turbulent times. Pertinacious he stucks in his flower pot and waits for the things that may come.
Could have named the painting »3 Weather Taft« (an old-fashioned German hairspray). But of course I'm not so surreptitious.

Skyline

Vom Treppenhaus des AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario) aus hat man einen schönen Blick auf die Skyline von Toronto.
Diese kleine Fingerübung wurde weitgehend mit nur einem sehr feinen Pinsel ohne zwischenzeitliches Auswaschen desselben gemalt.

This little finger exercise was painted largely with only one very fine brush without washing it out intermediately .

101 Dalmatiner

100 Bilder und doch kein Ende? Nun, gestern gab es wieder unser regelmäßiges »Mittwochszeichnen«. Diesmal in der zentralen Stadtbibliothek. Und Donnerstags läuft noch der Aktzeichenkurs. Das, was jeweils dabei rauskommt, werde ich regelmäßig hier posten. Und da ich noch dutzende Malspinnereien im Kopf und in den Skizzenbüchern habe, wird's wohl auch nicht bei 101 bleiben.
Titelgebendes Disneybuch steht im rechten Regal zweite Reihe, das 3. von links.

The Hundred and One Dalmatians
100 images and yet no end? Well, yesterday our Urban Sketchin Troupers ransacked the central city library. And on Thursdays, there's still the nude sketching class. So, what comes out of this, will be at least posted here regularly. And because of my dozens of »painting fantasies« in my head and in my sketchbooks, it won't last at #101.
The titular Disney book stands in the second row of the right shelf, the third from the left.

Hudson's Bay Company

Toronto war Thema meines ersten »Daily Paintings« und bildet nun auch das Ende. 100 Tage später seht ihr nun das letzte Werk von 100 versprochenen Bildern.
Aber keine Sorge, es geht auch morgen weiter.
Vielleicht nicht mehr wirklich jeden Tag. Und  wahrscheinlich werden nun auch vermehrt »nur« Skizzen, Aquarelle oder grafische Werke eingestellt. Aber viele fanden gerade diese Arbeiten besonders gelungen.
Ich danke euch allen für eure Kritik, Kauflust, Begeisterung und eure vielen ermutigenden freundlichen Kommentare.
Man lernt nie aus.

Toronto was subject of my first »Daily Painting« and is also theme in the last one. 100 days later you see the last of my 100 promised paintings.
But don't worry. There will be a »tomorrow«.
Of course I will carry on painting. Maybe not really every day. Likely I will post more sketches, watercolors and graphic works. But some of the viewers enjoyed just this kind of work.
I thank you all for your criticism, buying power, enthusiasm and your encouraging and kind comments.
I never stop learning.

Schlossgespenst

Inzwischen hat der herzige Trend, gemeinsam ein mit den Initialen oder Namen der Beteiligten graviertes, hässliches, industriell gefertigtes Schloss an ein vormals noch wunderschönes städtisches Geländer an der Brücke über den Teich hinterm Neuen Rathaus zu hängen, um die ewige Treue zum gegenwärtigen Partner auszudrücken, leider auch bei vielen ach so verliebten Pärchen in Hannover Anhänger gefunden.
Das ist ja wohl das vorletzte. Also »Daily Painting« Nr. 99 von 100.

Under Lock and KeyMeanwhile, the simple-hearted trend to chain an ugly, industrially manufactured lock, engraved with the initials or names of the provided parties, on a formerly very beautiful railing of a bridge above the pond behind Hanover's new city hall, in order to express eternal love to the part-time partner, unfortunately, found support in many oh-so-loving couples in Hanover too.
This is the penultimate painting #99/100.

Als Einleitung der Woche folgt heute der zweite Satz meiner Durchführung des Marburger Aktmalwochenendes als klassische Symphonie in 3 Akten. Diesmal mit Betonung einer ganz auf die grafische Linie reduzierten Note.

Beim gestrigen Malkurs in Marburg entstanden wieder viele neue Akte. Die effektive Heizung lässt die Modelle kalt und die Zeichner schwitzen.

Ein kleiner > Feinkostladen in der Hannoveraner Nordstadt rühmt sich inoffiziell, Niedersachsens kleinste Kochschule zu sein. Hier finden sich neben zahlreichen schöne Küchenutensilien und Gegenständen auch leckere (!) selbstgemachte Chutneys und Marmeladen sowie eine Frischetheke mit Wildspezialitäten und vieles andere mehr.

Starlet*
A small > deli in the northern city of Hanover boasts, to be unofficially the smallest cookery school in Lower Saxony. Along with numerous beautiful kitchen utensils and objects there can be found tasty (!) homemade chutneys and jams, and a deli counter with venison specialities and much more.

Indian Summer

In Japan heißt unser Altweibersommer »koharu 小春«, was übersetzt »Kleiner Frühling« bedeutet. In Finnland ist es die »Zeit der Braunfärbung« (Ruska-Aika). In Schweden ist's der »Brittsommar«. In einigen Mittelmeerländern nennt man es den »St.-Martins-Sommer«.
Aber ganz egal, wie ihr es nennt, die Blätter fallen trotzdem.
Hintergrundmusik: »Meet me in the indian summer« von Van Morrison.

In Japan, the name of our German »Altweibersommer« (which derives from web weaving spiders) is »Koharu 小春,« which translates as »Little Spring«. In Finland it is the »time of browning« (Ruska Aika). In Sweden's it's »Brittsommar«.
In some Mediterranean countries, it's called »St. Martin's Summer«.
But no matter how you call it, the leaves keep falling anyway.

Thea's Garden

Ein  botanisches Kleinod inmitten der Felder. Hoffentlich keine vergangene Idylle. Denn eben sehe ich auf Wikipedia, dass im benachbarten Goderich am 21. August (also kurz nach unserem Besuch in Kanada) der schwerste Tornado seit Jahren dort gewütet hat.

A botanical gem among the fields. Hopefully not an idyllic past. Because I just saw on Wikipedia that shortly after our visit in nearby Goderich on August 21st, the heaviest  tornado since years had been raging.

Bausünden

Um von der schnieken Innenstadt zum relaxten Ontario-Seeufer (und zu den vorgelagerten Inseln) zu gelangen, muss man die Unterquerung des Gardiner Expressways an der Yonge Street nehmen. Bauwerke ähnlicher Machart waren in den 60er und 70er Jahren schwer in Mode.
Fand man so etwas nicht schon damals hässlich?
Unsere Raschplatzhochstraße in Hannover verbreitet ein ähnlich anmutiges urbanes Flair.

Eyesores
To get from snazzy downtown to the relaxed Ontario shore (and to the offshore islands), you have to take the crossing under the Gardiner Expressway on Yonge Street. Buildings of similar design were in fashion in the 60s and 70s. Did they really found it groovy back then? Our Raschplatz High Street in Hanover spreads a similar charming urban flair.
