Today I got to the »ugly duckling state of the art«. That is: The basic structures and shapes are laid, but colors and execution are still "oohmph".

Heute eine weitere Brücke aber ohne Schnee. Dies ist eine Vorskizze zu einem neuen Auftrag. Farblich viel zu bunt, aber die Komposition ist soweit schon okay.
Today another bridge but without snow. This is a preliminary sketch for a new job. Colorwise much too bright, but the composition is so far already okay.
Aujourd'hui, un autre pont mais sans neige. Il s'agit d'une esquisse préliminaire pour un nouvel emploi. Les couleurs sont beaucoup trop vives, mais la composition est jusqu'à présent déjà correcte.

Ich denke eigentlich bei fast jedem Bildmotiv am Anfang: "Ob's das wohl bringt?". Auch bei diesem hier. Die Vorlage war wirklich grotten-öde. Aber ich finde es hat was, oder?
I actually think with almost every motif at the beginning: "I wonder if it's worth painting?". Even with this one. The template was really boring and dull. But I think it has something special, right?
En fait, je pense qu'avec presque tous les motifs du début : "Je me demande si ça vaut la peine de peindre ?". Même avec celui-ci. Le modèle était vraiment ennuyeux et terne. Mais je pense qu'il a quelque chose de spécial, n'est-ce pas ?

So weltbewegend wie der Titel ist auch das Bild selber. Also eher beruhigend und nichtssagend.
As earth-shattering as the title is the painting itself. So rather soothing and meaningless.
Le tableau lui-même est aussi bouleversant que le titre. Il est donc plutôt apaisant et dénué de sens.

Auf grauem Papier muss man viel Deckweiß draufklatschen, um so etwas wie "Schnee" zu bekommen.
On gray paper, you have to slap on a lot of opaque white to get something like "snow."
Sur le papier gris, il faut taper beaucoup de blanc opaque pour obtenir quelque chose comme de la "neige".

So einfach war das technisch damals. Das meiste konnte man noch selber reparieren. Wie oft habe ich am Vergaser rumgeschraubt? Aber der kleine 50 PS Käfermotor in unserem 1972er VW T2 Bulli hat uns damals ganz schön weit durch Europa gebracht.
It was technically as simple as that back then. Most of the things I could still repair myself. How often did I screw on the carburetor? But the small 50 HP Beetle engine in our 1972 VW T2 Bulli took us quite a long way through Europe.
A l'époque, c'était techniquement aussi simple que cela. La plupart des choses que je pouvais encore réparer moi-même. Combien de fois ai-je vissé le carburateur ? Mais le petit moteur de 50 CV de notre VW T2 Bulli de 1972 nous a fait parcourir un long chemin à travers l'Europe.

Eigentlich war mir das Motiv ja zu kitschig und unfertig. Nun isses aber doch hier gelandet.
Actually the motif was too kitschy and unfinished for me. But now it landed here after all.
