Ausnahmsweise habe ich einmal "schwarz" als Farbe benutzt. Und zwar Kalligrafietusche von Rohrer und Klinger für die Untermalung - mit dem Pinsel gezeichnet. Das Ergebnis (Zufall?) ist ein Comicartiger Look. Auch schön und mal ganz anders.

As an exception, I used" black" as a color on this occasion. Calligraphy ink from Rohrer and Klinger for the underpainting (drawing with a small brush). The result (coincidence?) is a comic-like look. Also nice and quite different.

Ihr kennt vielleicht da Pareto-Prinzip? Es besagt in etwa, dass man in 20% der Zeit 80% der Arbeit gemacht hat. Der Rest zieht sich dann oft nur hin und ist "Schnickschnack" und Prokrastination. Wie fast immer, habe ich alle 3 Bilder parallel gemalt. Die drei s/w Untermalungen habe ich in so etwa 20% der gesamten Zeit fertig gehabt. Das hätte fast schon gereicht. Ich bin halt ein ungeduldiger Maler. Danach dann noch eine ganze Weile die Farben gesetzt. Wenn die Tonwerte der einfarbigen Untermalung "stimmen", kann man es also nur noch verschlechtern (haha).

You may know the Pareto principle? It says that in 20% time 80% work is done. The rest often just drags on and is "bells and whistles" and procrastination. As almost always, I made all 3 paintings in parallel. I finished the three b/w backgrounds in about 20% of the total time. That almost does it. Sorry, I'm just an impatient painter. Then the colors are set in for quite a while. Notice: If the values of your monochrome background are "right", it can only f*ck up get worse (haha).

Im Aktkurs, den ich letzten Donnerstag geleitet habe, war das Thema Licht und Schatten. Das Modell wurde von einem starken Strahler angestrahlt, sodass Interessante Lichteffekte entstehen konnten.

In my life painting class I guided on last Thursday it was all about light and shadow. The model was illuminated by a strong spotlight, so interesting light effects could arise.

Diese kleinen Übungen kennen viele ja bereits. Meine Vorgabe hierfür ist: Noch kleineres Format (15 x 15 cm) und eine klare Zeitvorgabe: Es darf nicht länger als eine normale CD-Spielzeit dauern. Heute gab ich mir noch einen kurzen Bonus-Track ;)

I call these short exercises »petitesses« (from the French word for small). My default for this is to paint even smaller (6 x 6 inches) and a a fixed timing: It shall not last longer than the playtime of a normal CD. Today I gayve me a bonus track ;)

'Xarah Von Den Vielenregen' war unser Modell bei Dr. Sketchy's AntiArtSchool am Sonntag. Zum Glück war ihr Name kein Programm für das Wetter dieser Woche. Die Zeichnungen sind alle auf DIN A3 Papier mit Zeichentusche und wasservermalbarem Bleistift entstanden.

'Xarah Von Den Vielenregen' (Xarah Of Lots of rain) was our model for Dr. Sketchy's AntiArtSchool on Sunday. Luckily her name was not program for the weather this week. The drawings are all on sketching paper with drawing ink and water soluble pencil.

Ich habe mir ein schönes neues Buch gekauft, in dem man zu vielen netten Farb- und Malübungen animiert wird. Hauptsächlich geht es um den Einsatz von Licht und um Farbe.

I bought a beautiful new book which encouraged me to do lots of nice coloring and drawing exercises. Mainly it's about the use of light and color.

Dieses hier begann eigentlich als kleine Übung auf einem Stück Probe-Aquarellpapier von boesner. Während der Speillänge der CD »synkronized« von Jamiroquai, wurde daraus eine nette Studie. Mehr aber auch nicht.
Fazit 1: Man kann auf dickem Aquarellpapier auch prima mit Acrylfarben arbeiten.
Okay, das wusste ich aber bereits vorher ;)
Fazit 2: Auch nicht neu: Man sollte eigentlich viel mehr experimentieren!
Testhalber startet die Auktion diesmal mit 1 $ (zuzüglich Versandkosten).

This one actually started as a small exercise on a sample of watercolor paper from boesner. While in the background Jamiroquai's »synkronized" was playing, it became a nice study. That's all. 
Conclusion 1: You can nicely work with acrylics on thick watercolor paper. 
But I already knew this before ;) 
Conclusion 2: You should really experiment a lot more! Ahem, this is also known. 
As a test, this auction starts at 1$.
