Nach vielen vielen Jahren Abstinenz habe ich mit den Mittwochssketchys eine "Radier-Session" gemacht. Eines der Motive war dieses Porträt von Mr. Raven. Also ist dieser Druck (mangels eigener Druckpresse) eine absolute Rarität. Momentan gibt es nur diese 2 unterschiedlichen Drucke. Welcher gefällt euch besser?

Da nur "trockene" Zeichenmedien im Museum erlaubt sind, habe ich mit dem Brush Pen und einem verwischenden Medium gearbeitet - okay das war ein Wasserpinsel, aber der gibt (gewusst wie) nicht mehr Feuchtigkeit ab als ein Filzstift. Alles safe, Alter!

Since only "dry" drawing mediums are allowed in the museum, I worked with the Brush Pen and a smudging medium - okay that was a water brush, but it doesn't (know how) give off any more moisture than a felt tip pen. All safe, dude!

Comme seuls les médiums de dessin "secs" sont autorisés dans le musée, j'ai travaillé avec le Brush Pen et un médium smudging - ok c'était un pinceau à eau, mais il ne donne (sait comment) pas plus d'humidité qu'un stylo à feutres. Tout est sûr, mec !

Solche Eckhäuser, die in zwei Richtungen laufen, sind immer interessant als Motiv. Das muss irgendwo in Italien sein. Erkennbar am kleinen Piaggio "Ape".

Such corner houses running in two directions are always interesting as a sketching motif. This must be somewhere in Italy. Recognizable by the small Piaggio "Ape".

Ces maisons d'angle à double sens sont toujours intéressantes comme motif de croquis. Ceci doit se trouver quelque part en Italie. Reconnaissable par le petit Piaggio "Ape".

Nachdem ich die Komposition neu gestaltet hatte, wurde das Bild immer kompakter und dunkler. So hat sich letztlich eine abendliche Szene ergeben. Die Geschäfte schließen gleich, es regnet ein wenig und die Straße reflektiert das Licht. Ich habe mich bewusst entschieden, die Reflektionen nicht zu stark und effekthascherisch zu machen. Auch ist mir der Detailgrad nun ausreichend groß, dass sich der Betrachter (und die -innen und -außen) den Rest in der Fantasie ergänzen kann. 

After I reshaped the composition, the picture became more compact and darker. Thus, in the end, an evening scene has emerged. The stores are about to close- It's raining. The street reflects the light. I made a conscious decision not to make the reflections too strong and gimmicky. For me the level of detail is now sufficiently so that the viewer can complete the rest in her or his imagination. 

Après avoir réajusté la composition, l'image est devenue plus compacte et plus sombre. Ainsi, au final, une scène de soirée est apparue. Les magasins sont sur le point de fermer. Il pleut. La rue reflète la lumière. J'ai pris la décision consciente de ne pas rendre les reflets trop forts et gadgets. Pour moi, le niveau de détail est maintenant suffisant pour que le spectateur puisse compléter le reste dans son imagination.

Nachdem ich ein paar Tage das Bild im Atelier vor Augen hatte war es klar, dass mit der Komposition etwas nicht richtig war und ich das gesamte Bild noch einmal neu überarbeiten musste. Das rechte und das linke Bilddrittel waren von der Form und ihrer Wichtung zu ähnlich und wirkten mir zu "langweilig" und  wenig spannend. Als Folge übermalte ich zuerst den linken und rechten Teil komplett. Dann baute ich  ein weiteres Haus links ein und kürzte das rechte um eine gesamte Etage. Nun ist es natürlich nicht mehr die "gesehene" Kramergasse in Hannover sondern eine neue fiktive Stadtansicht. 

After a few days in front of the picture in the studio it was clear that something was not right with the composition and I had to rework the entire painting. The right and the left third of the picture were too similar in form and their weighting and they seemed boring and not very exciting to me. As a result, I first painted over the left and right parts completely. Then I added another house on the left and shortened the right one by an entire floor. Now, of course, it is no longer the "seen" Kramergasse in Hanover but a new fictional city view. 

Après quelques jours passés devant le tableau dans l'atelier, il était clair que quelque chose n'allait pas dans la composition et j'ai dû retravailler l'ensemble du tableau. Les tiers droit et gauche du tableau étaient trop semblables dans leur forme et leur pondération et ils me semblaient ennuyeux et peu excitants. Par conséquent, j'ai d'abord repeint entièrement les parties gauche et droite. Puis j'ai ajouté une autre maison sur la gauche et raccourci celle de droite d'un étage entier. Maintenant, bien sûr, ce n'est plus la Kramergasse "vue" à Hanovre, mais une nouvelle vue fictive de la ville.

Es gibt leider keine fotografierten Zwischenschritte - aber alles wurde bis zu diesem Punkt in weiteren 1.5 Stunden angelegt. In diesem Stadium sind die Details noch nicht so relevant sondern erst einmal das "Farbe draufkoffern" (Shout out to Nue) und die dunklen Stellen zu finden. Gearbeitet wurde mit breitem Pinsel, Schwämmchen, Spachteln, Malmessern, Sprühflaschen und mit Händen und Fingern.

There are unfortunately no photographed intermediate steps - but everything was created up to this point in another 1.5 hours. At this stage, the details are not yet so relevant. First comes much color and contrast. find the dark spots. I used broad brushes, sponges, spatulas, painting knives, spray bottles and my hands and fingers. 

Il n'y a malheureusement pas d'étapes intermédiaires photographiées - mais tout a été créé jusqu'à ce point en une heure et demie. À ce stade, les détails ne sont pas encore très importants, il s'agit d'abord de "mettre de la peinture" et de trouver les zones sombres. Le travail a été effectué avec des pinceaux larges, des éponges, des spatules, des couteaux à peindre, des vaporisateurs et avec les mains et les doigts.

4183 The Haunted House (Phase 04 final)

Nachdem ich eine Nacht drüber geschlafen hatte und mir das Bild erneut ansah, war klar, dass mit dem Himmel etwas passieren musste. Das Ton-in-Ton war mir dann doch zu langweilig. Mit den changierenden Blau- und Rosétönen habe ich nun das finale Setting gefunden. 

After I slept on it for a night and revisited the picture, it was clear that something had to happen to the sky. The tone-on-tone was far too boring for me. With the iridescent blue and pink hues I have now found my final setting for the painting.

Après avoir dormi dessus pendant une nuit et revu l'image, il était clair que quelque chose devait arriver au ciel. Le ton sur ton était beaucoup trop ennuyeux pour moi. Avec les teintes irisées de bleu et de rose, j'ai maintenant trouvé mon réglage final pour le tableau.

Nach der Graustufenmalerei kommt ein wenig Farbe ins Spiel. Diesmal habe ich sparsam im Gelb/Orange/Beige Bereich gemischt und versucht im geheimnisvoll monochromatischen Bereich zu bleiben. Fertig?

After the grayscale painting a little color comes into play. So this time I sparsely mixed in the yellow/orange/beige range and tried to stay in the mysterious monochromatic range. Ready?

Après la peinture en gris, un peu de couleur entre en jeu. Cette fois, j'ai donc mélangé avec parcimonie dans la gamme jaune/orange/beige et j'ai essayé de rester dans la gamme monochromatique mystérieuse. Prêt?

Der nächste Schritt ist es, die Dunkelheiten des Bildes in seinen Grauschattierungen darzustellen.  Da es ein "Spukhaus" werden soll, ist das ganze recht dunkel und geheimnisvoll. 

The next step is to show the darkness of the image in its gray tones.  Since it is supposed to be a "haunted house", the whole thing is quite dark and mysterious. 

L'étape suivante consiste à montrer la noirceur de l'image dans ses tons gris.  Comme il est censé s'agir d'une "maison hantée", l'ensemble est tout à fait sombre et mystérieux.

Seit heute arbeite ich wieder an einem größeren Format. Diesmal sogar ein doppelt so großes Format wie letztes Mal: 80 x 120 cm. Begonnen habe ich mit einer Variation der Skizze von letztem Donnerstag. Erst einmal geschaut, wie es in verschiedenen Settings aussieht. ganz kleine kolorierte Studien (eigentlich nur für mich). Als nächstes habe ich die alte Leinwand neu in Neapelgelb übergrundiert. Auf der Leinwand prangte noch ein gar schröcklich altes misslungenes Aktgemälde  von 2010. Nach dem die Grundierung leidlich getrocknet war habe ich mir einen dunklen Farbton aus Indigo, rot und etwas Kadmiumgelb gemischt, mit dem ich dann mit feinem Borstenpinsel und Schwamm die obige Vorskizze angefertigt habe.

Since today I'm working on a larger format. This time even twice as large as last time: 31.5 x 47.2 inches. I started with a variation of the sketch from last Thursday. First of all I looked how it works in different settings in very small colored studies (actually just done for me). Next, I re-primed the old canvas in Naples yellow. On the canvas was still emblazoned a terrible old failed nude painting from 2010. After the primer had dried reasonably I mixed a dark shade from indigo, red and some cadmium yellow. Then with fine bristle brush and sponge I painted the preliminary sketch above.

Depuis aujourd'hui, je travaille à nouveau sur un format plus grand. Cette fois-ci, un format deux fois plus grand que la dernière fois : 80 x 120 cm. J'ai commencé par une variation de l'esquisse de jeudi dernier. D'abord, j'ai regardé ce que cela donnait dans différents cadres. De toutes petites études colorées (en fait, juste pour moi). Ensuite, j'ai repeint l'ancienne toile en jaune de Naples. Sur la toile, il y avait encore une peinture de nu raté de 2010. Après le séchage de l'apprêt, j'ai mélangé une teinte foncée d'indigo, de rouge et d'un peu de jaune de cadmium. Ensuite, j'ai peint l'esquisse préliminaire ci-dessus à l'aide d'une brosse fine et d'une éponge.
