In der toskanischen Stadt Siena war ich vor einigen Jahren. Einmal nahm ich als Zuschauer bei einem der alljährlich zweimal stattfindenden Palio teil. Dort ritten dann die ausgewählten Reiter der jeweiligen Contraden (Stadtgebiete) wie die vom Teufel besessenen rund um den Piazza del Campo. Vor den Rennen gibt es einen prachtvollen Umzug durch die Stadtviertel mit mittelalterlichen Kostümen Fahnenschwenkern und Wappenträgern. 

I visited the Tuscan city of Siena a few years ago. Once, I attended one of the Palio races, which take place twice a year. There, the selected riders from the respective contrade (city districts) rode around the Piazza del Campo as if possessed by the devil. Before the races, there is a magnificent parade through the city districts with flag-wavers and heralds in medieval costumes. 

Je me suis rendu dans la ville toscane de Sienne il y a quelques années. À cette occasion, j'ai vu en tant que spectateur le Palio, qui a lieu deux fois par an. Les cavaliers sélectionnés des différents quartiers (contrade) ont alors galopé comme des possédés autour de la Piazza del Campo. Avant les courses, un magnifique défilé traverse les quartiers de la ville, avec des porte-drapeaux et des porte-blasons en costumes médiévaux.
