Gestern habe ich einen Brunetti-Krimi (nach den Büchern von Donna Leon) auf dem iPad geschaut. Egal, worum es sich dort inhaltlich handelt, am schönsten sind die Aufnahmen der Stadt. Die Barockkirche am Eingang zum Canal Grande ist zum Beispiel ein klassisches Motiv dem man als Maler kaum widerstehen kann.

Yesterday I watched a Brunetti thriller on the iPad (novels from Donna Leon). No matter what the plot is, most beautiful are the shots of the city. The Baroque church at the entrance to the Grand Canal, for example, is a classic motif which you can hardly resist as a painter.

Ich läute hiermit 3 weitere »Aquarelltage« ein: Ab heute bin ich bei einem dreitägigen Kurs des bekannten österreichischen Aquarellisten Erwin Kastner in der Kunstfabrik Hannover zu Gange. Die ersten Ergebnisse gibt es hoffentlich morgen zu sehen. 

Mit Acryl geht es danach wieder verstärkt weiter.

I'm announcing another 3 Watercolor-Days. As of today I am at a a 3-day-workshop with the famous Austrian watercolourist Erwin Kastner in the Artfactory Hannover. The first results you can see tomorrow.

Heute war mir nach Venedig. Wasser, Hitze und gemütliches dolce far niente. Im Garten zu malen kommt dem schon recht nahe. Zumindest die Hitze war da.

Today I was reflecting about Venice. Water, heat and cozy idleness. To paint in the garden comes close to it. Except for the water and the dolce far niente.

Da wir uns bald Richtung Norden aufmachen, sind die Reisevorbereitungen in vollem Gange. Zudem habe ich mir bei einem kleinen Radunfall die Hand gestaucht – But don't worry! Beim Malen tut es nicht arg weh, aber ein bisschen Schonung ist dennoch angesagt. Kurzum, gibt es heute eine meiner Skizzen aus Venedig, die es nun so doch noch auf diese Webseite geschafft hat ;)

Alley Sketch
Since we are now open to head northbound, our travel arrangements are n full swing. In addition, I have squeezed the hand in a small bicycle accident. Vorm Laden des venezianischen Gemüsehändlers stehen immer mehrere Kisten mit den Resten der vorbereiteteten Artischocken. Auch das sieht natürlich malerisch aus. Mitten im dekorativen Müll hat ein Restaurantbeitzer seine Visitenkarte versteckt.

Decorative Veggie Trash

In front of the Venetian greengrocer there's always several boxes with the remains of prepared artichokes. Of course that's picturesque too for painting. In the middle of the waste, a restaurant owner placed his business card.

Mein erstes Acrylbild nach dem Venedigurlaub. Das Farbenmischen und die andere Arbeitsweise habe ich doch ein wenig vermisst. Zum Glück funktioniert es noch. Man zweifelt ja immer ein wenig.

My first acrylic painting after my vacation in Venice. It's quite a bit different way of working with acrylics. Fortunately it still works. I thin I am not the only one who feels unsure, that it still will work after a week's break.

Ein weiteres Aquarell, welches ich en plein air in der Serenissima gemalt habe. Serenus bedeutet heiter, gelassen und ruhig und das beschreibt unsere Malwoche in Venedig doch exakt! Vom Campo San Stin aus haben wir die Wahlplakate der kommenden Kommunalwahl bewundert. 
Okay, und die Kirche. Die Basilika ist der größte gotische Sakralbau von Venedig. 
Ich habe extra 'ne Katze und aus Versehen ein Nilpferd reingemalt. Na, gefunden?

Another plein air watercolor from the Serenissima. This term is also used for Venice. Serenus means serene, calm and relaxed. And that describes exactly what our painting week in Venice was about. From the Campo San Stin, we admired the posters of the upcoming local elections. Okay, and the Church. The Basilica is the largest gothic religious building in Venice. I intentionally painted a cat and accidentally inserted a hippopotamus.

Heute hatten wir unseren ersten Maltag in Venedig. Direkt um die Ecke von unseren Unterkünften gibt es bereits die schönsten und malerischsten Motive. Auch da Wetter spielt mit und ich kann in meiner liebsten Malkleidung rumlaufen. Spruch des Tages (bei der abendlichen Motivsuche im dunklen Venedig): "Hier kann man auch toll malen, man sieht das jetzt nur nicht..." Und das an 5 verschiedenen Stellen der Stadt...

Today we had our first Painting day in Venice. Just around the corner from our accommodation there are beautiful and picturesque motifs. The weather too is great, and I can walk around in my favorite painting gear. Quote of the day (while walking through the nocturnal dark city of Venice: "Here's a wonderful paintibg spot, that you can't see right now... our guide told us five times or so...

Oh yes! I like those perspective viewsm directly gazing upward in a narrow dark alley. And yet this is the only way to see the sky. And exactly the one and only way not to see the little red dwarfs running around below. (Yes, here again you need to be a cineast.)
