Heute mal wieder eine kleine Lehrstunde:

Die Portraits von gestern und heute sind nicht sonderlich anspruchsvoll, anatomisch richtig oder perfekt. Und das sollten sie auch gar nicht sein. Vielmehr sollte man diese kleinen Arbeiten wirklich als Skizze auffassen. Eine Skizze ist ein erster Entwurf und das Malen eines dieser kleinen Bilder dauert maximal 15 Minuten. Es bleibt also immer etwas Unfertiges und Grobes - ohne viele Details. 

Gearbeitet wird frei nach dem Motto: Just do it! 

Nach dem Schnellmalen folgt dann entweder Schnell-Ernüchterung oder positive Überraschung. Einiges - siehe gestern - erweist sich als reif für den Papierkorb. Doch bei diesem Bild gefallen mir spontan die Hauttöne und das Blau. Das Motiv "funktioniert", wie man sagt. Und manchmal ist eine lockere Skizze eben zehnmal interessanter, als ein ausgefeiltes fotorealistisches Portrait. 

Ihr braucht aber keine Sorge haben, es folgen nicht noch 97 weitere Portraits. 

Sonntag ist der Spuk zu Ende!

Today another small lesson:

Yesterday's and today's portraits are not particularly demanding, anatomically correct or perfect. And they are not supposed to be. These small works should rather be seen as sketches. A sketch is a first draft and painting one of these small pieces takes a maximum of 15 minutes. So there is always something unfinished and crude - without too many details. 

The motto is: Just do it! 

After the quick painting follows either fast disenchantment or positive surprise. Some things - see yesterday - turn out to be ready for the trash. But in this picture I spontaneously like the skin tones and the blues. The motive "works", as we say. And sometimes a casual sketch is ten times more interesting than a sophisticated photorealistic portrait. 

But don't worry, there are not 97 more portraits to follow. 

But Sunday will be the end of the spook!

Schafft man es, einhundert Menschen-Skizzen in einer Woche in Acryl zu malen? Ich jedenfalls nicht. Aber die Challenge #OneWeek100People2018, welche auch dieses Jahr auf facebook veranstaltet wird, verlangt das auch gar nicht. Hier reichen "normale" Skizzen. Hierzu morgen mehr!

Can you manage to paint a hundred human sketches in a week in acrylic? Not me, anyway. But the Challenge #OneWeek100People2018, which will also be held this year on facebook , doesn't require that at all. Normal "quick sketches will do the job. More tomorrow!

Noch stehen sie im Schrank, meine eigenen Joggingschuhe. Aber morgen geht es wieder los mit der Lauferei! Dieses Exemplar fand ich dereinst vor der Kunstfabrik Hannover zum Trocknen aufgestellt.

They're still in the closet, my good old running shoes. But tomorrow I'll start running again! But this model stood in front of the Kunstfabrik Hannover for some time to dry.

Hier brennt selbst die Wand, so schön leuchtet das Leuchtorange. Der Trick ist es, auch neutrale und graue Flächen neben die gesättigte Farbe zu stellen. Dann wirkt der Kontrast noch stärker.

The walls seem as they are burning, while the light orange shines so beautifully. The trick is to place neutral and grey areas next to the saturated color. Then the contrast then works even stronger.

Das nennt man dann wohl Mixed Media: Zuerst habe ich mit blauem Aquarellstift die Skizze gemacht. Dann wurden mit oranger Füllhaltertinte einige sehr flüssige Untermalungen angefertigt. Mit dunkler Acrylfarbe setzte ich dann die Treppen und Dunkelheiten. Zum Schluss folgten die hellblauen und weißen Reflexe.

I guess that's called mixed media: First I made a blue watercolour pencil sketch. Then some very fluid underpaintings were made with orange fountain pens. Then. with dark acrylic paint I set the stairs and the dark spots. To the end the light blue and white reflections followed.

An einigen Pfählen und Verkehrsschildern hängen sogar 4 Überwachungskameras. Wehe, wer hier falsch abbiegt. Auch hier bei uns gibt es inzwischen schon einige dieser Kameras an neuralgischen Punkten. 

Not less than even four surveillance cameras are installed on some of the posts and traffic signs. Don't make a wrong turn here. Of course, in each bigger village or road crossing you'll find a lot of these cameras at neuralgic points.

2368 Irrfahrten im Museum

Am Sonntag beim Sketchertreffen im Landesmuseum Hannover malte und skizzierte ich verschiedene Eindrücke in ein 60 Jahre altes Buch. Die Seiten habe ich vorher präpariert und teilweise mit weißer oder farbiger Acrylfarbe neu grundiert. Vor Ort habe ich dann sehr spontan und experimentell mit Stift, Füller und Aquarell darüber skizziert.

Journeys in the Museum

On Sunday during the sketch meeting at the Landesmuseum Hannover I painted and outlined various impressions in a 60-year-old book. I prepared the pages in advance and primed them with white or coloured acrylic paint. On site I sketched over it very spontaneously and experimentally with pencil, pen and watercolor.

Dieses Woche starten Köln, das Rheinland und alle anderen Jecken in die Fünfte Jahreszeit.
Da muss auch mal der Dom das Motiv sein.

We leave the Cologne Cathedral in Cologne, because there it belongs to.
Which is to be sung in the right way with lots of beer (Kölsch) running down the throat.
This week, Cologne, the Rhineland and Jetsets all over the world start in the fifth season.
So my homey cathedral happened to be the motive.
