Im Zoo Hannover gibt es eine echt cool nachgebaute Yukon Bay Area Szenerie. In der Market Hall gibt's Futter und gegenüber sitzt der Eisbär auf dem Felsen.

Hanover Zoo has a really cool replica of the Yukon Bay Area. You can get food in the Market Hall, and across from it, the polar bear is sitting on a rock.

Le zoo de Hanovre abrite une reconstitution vraiment géniale de la région de Yukon Bay. On peut se restaurer dans le Market Hall, et juste en face, l'ours polaire est assis sur un rocher.

Am Montag war ich kurz im Zoo zum Skizzieren. da noch Schulferien in Niedersachsen sind, waren entsprechend viele Kids dort. Schöner Anlass, eher die Zoo-Deko als die Tiere zu skizzieren, die man vor lauter kleinen Bälgern nicht sehen konnte.

On Monday, I stopped by the zoo briefly to sketch. Since it’s still school vacation in Lower Saxony, there were a lot of kids there. It was a great opportunity to sketch the zoo’s decorations rather than the animals, which were impossible to see because of all the little rascals running around.

Lundi, je suis passé rapidement au zoo pour faire quelques croquis. Comme ce sont encore les vacances scolaires en Basse-Saxe, il y avait beaucoup d’enfants. C’était l’occasion idéale de dessiner les décorations du zoo plutôt que les animaux, que l’on ne voyait pas à cause de tous ces petits chenapans.

Im nächsten Jahr findet das Internationale Urban Sketchers Treffen in Toronto / Canada statt. Dort hat im August vor 15 Jahren meine tägliche DailyPainting Reise begonnen. Momentan nutze ich den WaterBrush Pen (im Bild rechts unten) für monochrome Zeichnungen.

Next year, the International Urban Sketchers Gathering will take place in Toronto, Canada. That’s where my DailyPainting journey began 15 years ago in August. Right now, I’m using the WaterBrush Pen (bottom right in the picture) for monochrome drawings.

Am Montag war ich auf der Einkaufsstraße "Lister Meile" unterwegs. Der Blumenstand gegenüber dem Café war zwar schön aber mein Anspruch, nur mit Indigo und einer weiteren Farbe (gelb) auszukommen war fürs Gesamtmotiv zu langweilig. Darum habe ich nachträglich noch den Mann und die Dame mit Hund für die "Story" ergänzt.

On Monday, I was walking along the “Lister Meile” shopping street. The flower stand across from the café was pretty, but my plan to use only indigo and one other color (yellow) made the overall composition too boring. So I added the man and the woman with the dog to "tell the story”.

Lundi, je me promenais dans la rue commerçante « Lister Meile ». Le stand de fleurs en face du café était joli, mais mon intention de n’utiliser que de l’indigo et une autre couleur (le jaune) rendait la composition d’ensemble trop monotone. J’ai donc ajouté l’homme et la femme avec leur chien pour « raconter l’histoire ».

An meiner Kunstakademie liegt nebenan ein schönes weiteres Backsteingebäude. das Wellmannhaus. Heute habe ich es nur in Indigo mit Tonwerten ohne Vorzeichnung skizziert. Am Ende noch ei paar Dunkelheiten in ganz schwarz ergänzt.

Right next to my art academy is another beautiful brick building: the Wellmannhaus. Today I sketched it in indigo using tonal values, without any preliminary sketch. At the end, I added a few dark areas in pure black.

Juste à côté de mon académie des arts se trouve un autre magnifique bâtiment en briques : la Wellmannhaus. Aujourd’hui, je l’ai esquissé uniquement à l’indigo en jouant sur les nuances, sans croquis préalable. À la fin, j’ai ajouté quelques zones sombres en noir pur.

Am Mittwoch - also genau eine Woche später als das letzte Bild war ich erneut am Nordufer - aber im Biergarten. das Maschseefest tobt drumherum - direkt am See ist es etwas chilliger.

On Wednesday—exactly one week after the last photo—I was back on the north shore, but this time in the beer garden. The Maschsee Festival is in full swing all around—but right by the lake, it’s a bit more laid-back.

Mercredi — exactement une semaine après la dernière photo —, j’étais de retour sur la rive nord, mais cette fois-ci dans le café en plein air. La fête du Maschsee bat son plein tout autour — mais au bord du lac, l’ambiance est un peu plus détendue.

5459 Musée Saint Raymond

Am Sonntag war dann das Symposium vorbei. Bis zum Rückflug nach Hannover via München war noch ein halber Tag Zeit, um neue Motive zu sketchen. Hier am Musée sieht man, warum die Stadt auch "La Ville Rose" genannt wird. Die Farbe der Backsteine kann - je nach Beleuchtung - auch mal Pink aussehen :)

The symposium ended on Sunday. I still had half a day left before my flight back to Hanover via Munich to sketch some new subjects. Here at the Musée, you can see why the city is also called “La Ville Rose.” Depending on the lighting, the color of the bricks can sometimes look pink.

Le symposium s’est terminé dimanche. Il me restait encore une demi-journée avant mon vol de retour vers Hanovre via Munich pour esquisser de nouveaux motifs. Ici, au Musée, on comprend pourquoi la ville est également surnommée « La Ville Rose ». Selon la lumière, la couleur des briques peut parfois paraître rose.

Nach den Workshops am Sonntag war noch etwas Zeit, um nochmals durch die Stadt zu streifen. Hier entstand eine dritte Skizze an der ikonischen Kirche. Ich habe hier mein neues Etchr-Sketchbook ausprobiert - tippitoppi!

After Sunday's workshops, I still had some time to wander through the city again. That's where I did a third sketch of the iconic church. I tried out my new Etchr sketchbook here—it's great!

Après les ateliers de dimanche, j'avais encore un peu de temps pour flâner à nouveau dans la ville. C'est là que j'ai réalisé un troisième croquis de cette église emblématique. J'ai testé mon nouveau carnet de croquis Etchr ici : il est génial !

5457 Saint-Sernin Reloaded

Kleine Anekdote am Rande: Als ich dieses Bild etwa 10 Minuten - beginnend am oberen Teil des Turmes - skizziert hatte, entschied sich unsere Hannover-Gruppe dazu, weiterzuziehen zwecks Nahrungsaufnahme und Befeuchtung der Innereien mit zweckdienlichen Flüssigkeiten in Verbindung mit der Eroberung der Dachterrasse in Erwartung des Feuerwerkes zur Feier des französischen Nationalfeiertages. Da ich die Skizze nicht fertigmachen konnte fristete sie ihr Dasein weitgehend unbeachtet im Skizzenbuch. Als es dann zur bereits beschriebenen Stadtführung der Workshopleiter kam, durfte ich dieses Werk in knapp 20 Minuten inkl. Kolorierung vollenden. Also eine echte Teilzeit-Liebe mit Happy End. Wir durften übrigens bei den HannUSKies mitmachen, welche uns den wunderschönen Auftritt im kermit-grünen Kuschel-T-Shirt (bei 35°C im Schatten) verschafften, anhand dessen man uns gut als Gruppe erkennen konnte. 

A little anecdote on the side: After I’d sketched this scene for about 10 minutes—starting at the top of the tower—our Hanover group decided to move on to grab a bite to eat and quench our thirst with some refreshments, all while heading up to the rooftop terrace to wait for the fireworks celebrating France’s National Day. Since I couldn’t finish the sketch, it languished largely unnoticed in my sketchbook. When the time came for the city tour with the workshop instructors, as described earlier, I was able to complete this piece in just under 20 minutes, including coloring. So, a true part-time love affair with a happy ending. By the way, we got to join the HannUSKies, who gave us that wonderful look in our Kermit-green cozy T-shirts (at 35°C in the shade), which made it easy to recognize us as a group.

Petite anecdote en passant : Alors que j’avais esquissé ce dessin pendant environ 10 minutes – en commençant par la partie supérieure de la tour –, notre groupe de Hanovre a décidé de poursuivre son chemin afin de se restaurer et de s’hydrater, tout en partant à la conquête de la terrasse sur le toit dans l’attente du feu d’artifice organisé pour célébrer la fête nationale française. Comme je n’avais pas pu terminer l’esquisse, celle-ci a mené une existence largement ignorée dans mon carnet de croquis. Lorsque la visite guidée de la ville, déjà décrite, organisée par les animateurs de l’atelier a eu lieu, j’ai pu achever cette œuvre en à peine 20 minutes, colorisation comprise. Une véritable histoire d’amour à temps partiel avec une fin heureuse. Nous avons d’ailleurs pu rejoindre les HannUSKies, qui nous ont permis de faire une magnifique apparition dans nos t-shirts douillets vert Kermit (par 35 °C à l’ombre), grâce auxquels on pouvait facilement nous reconnaître en tant que groupe.
