Das eigentlich für heute geplante Motiv ist leider nichts geworden. Manchmal ist das Zweitbeste aber auch gerade gut genug. Vielleicht lässt das den »mitleidig-arrogant-gönnerhaft-ich-hab's-dir-doch-gesagt«-Blick der abgebildeten Dame erklären?

The actually planned painting for today has become a complete flop. But sometimes the second-best is even good enough. Perhaps this can explain the »compassionate-arrogant-patronizing-haven't-I-told-you-before«-view of the painted lady ?

Sie tanzte, verzauberte und blickte verführerisch in die Runde. Ganz, wie man es von einer orientalischen Tänzerin erwartete. So geschehen nicht in Tausendundeiner Nacht, sondern letzten Mittwoch @ Dr. Sketchy's. Schaut sie nicht ein bisschen aus, wie Prinzessin Leia, als sie Jabbas Sklavin sein musste?

She danced, enchanted and gazed seductively towards us. Exactly as you expect it from an oriental dancer. This happened not in A Thousand and One Nights, but last Wednesday @ Dr. Sketchy's. Doesn't she look a bit like Princess Leia as Jabba's slave?

...heißt dieses Daily Painting nur, weil beim letzten Schwammstrich die Turmuhr gerade Zwölfe schlug. Ihr seht eine experimentelle Skizze von einer Skizze. Alternativtitel und Song zum Bild: »Die ruut-wieß-blau quergestreifte Frau«.

At the last struck of the sponge hitting the paper of this daily painting, the clock from the church tower just strikes twelve. What you see, is an experimental  sketch of a sketch. Alternative title and background song: »The red-white-blue-striped-woman«

Beinaheunfall

Nicht nur die deutsche Sprache kennt schöne Doppeldeutigkeiten. Heute gefällt mir die englische Übersetzung besonders. Auch in vielen der Daily Paintings sind versteckte und offene Anspielungen zu entdecken. Manchmal versuche ich euch auf eine falsche Fährte zu locken. Doch manchmal ist eine Skizze aber auch einfach nur eine Skizze.

Near Miss
Not only the German language has beautiful homonyms. In many of the daily paintings you can find hidden and obvious allusions. Sometimes I try to set you on a wrong track.
But sometimes a sketch is just a sketch.

Dieses Daily Painting könnte ebenfalls ein Ostseemotiv sein. Es ist aber das Ergebnis einer Bildübermalung. Manchmal ist der Zufall eben ein netter Kollege.

Beim Zeichnen bekomme ich zuweilen Kaffeedurst.
Auch in der bereits gestern gezeigten Galerie gibt es natürlich die unsägliche »Sternenrammler« Kaffeehauskette. Aber den besten Blick auf die Einkaufspassage hat man vom Obergeschoss der Galerie.

Immer noch nicht mehr Schnee seit gestern. Aber nicht nur Alice Cooper rockt die Welt. Wieso heißt ein russiches Kälte-Hoch »Cooper« und nicht »Zorya« (Sonne)? Den Buchstaben »C« gibt es in kyrillisch ja nicht.

Snow Shadow
Still no more snow since yesterday. But not only Alice Cooper rocks the world. (Cooper is the name of this anticyclone.) Why not call it »Zorya« (sun)? The letter »C« does not exist in Cyrillic.

So richtig geschneit hat es in Hannover ja nicht.
Allenfalls ein paar Reste überleben bei -4°C.
Aber die Sonne scheint und gleich bin ich am Zug.

Ice on a stick
(which is the literal translation and means popsicle®).
It has not really been snowing here in Hanover.
At most, a few remnants survive at 39° F.
But the sun is shining and I'm on the same train.

Der 859 Einwohner (Quelle: wikipedia) zählende kleine Hafenort Fjällbacka müsste wohl die höchste Kriminalitätsrate Westschwedens haben. Denn hier spielen die fiktiven Romane der Autorin Camilla Läckberg. 2007 haben wir den ersten Roman »Isprinsessan« dort in einem Schaufenster erspäht und sofort die deutsche Übersetzung gekauft.

Ice Princess
The 859 inhabitants (source: wikipedia) live dangerously.
The tiny spot of Fjällbacka would probably have the highest crime rate of western Sweden. According to the fictional novels of author Camilla Läckberg. In 2007, we spotted her first novel »Isprinsessan« in a bookstore and immediately bought the German translation.

Dschungelkönigin

Das Vorbild meines Dschungels war im amerikanischen Yellowstone Park. Beide Bilder sind Zwischenergebnisse.
Von der oberen Skizze (Hundehaufen) bis zum unteren heutigem Stadium. Bis zur Krönung wird es wohl noch einiger Pinselstriche bedürfen.

My personal jungle. Today it's an American Yellowstone Park impression. Both images are intermediate results. From the upper sketch (with dogpoo artifact) to the present bottom stage. To early for a coronation. It still requires some further brush strokes.
