Heute habe ich noch schnell an der wöchentlichen DPW Challenge teilgenommen.

Es ging u.a. darum, das Motiv in kurzer Zeit (max 2 Std.) fertigzustellen. Ich habe mir dann aber erst einmal die Häfte der Zeit als Ziel gestezt. Letztlich brauchte ich 75 Minuten bis zur Signatur.

The Spring into Action Challenge

Today I did participate in the weekly DPW Challenge.

It was about to finish the painting in a short time (max. 2 hours). My target was set to one hour. Ultimately, it took me 75 minutes until my signature.

• Skizzen im Sketchbook • 

Gestern waren wir beim Rudelsingen im Pavillon. Dort treffen sich 800 Leute, um gemeinsam Schlager des vergangenen Jahrhunderts zu singen. Draußen sitzen sudanesischen Flüchtlinge in und vor den Zelten auf dem Weißekreuzplatz (Refugee Protest Strike Hannover).

Yesterday we went to Rudelsingen (»swarm singing«) in the pavilion. It brings  800 people together to sing hits of the last century. On the outside Sudanese refugees are sitting in and in front of their tents on the meadow square (Refugee Protest Strike Hanover).

Zum verlängerten Wochenende waren wir in der Hansestadt Lübeck. Hier war schon alles generalstabsmäßig auf den kommenden G7 Gipfel der Außenminister eingestellt.

Darum sind wir auch schnell Richtung Ostsee weitergezogen und waren auf dem Rückweg noch kurz in Lüneburg auf einen Kakao mit Sahne.

Luebeck

For a prolonged weekend we visited the old hanseatic city of Luebeck. Here everything was set to the next G7 summit of foreign ministers.

That is why we have moved quickly towards the Baltic Sea. 

On our way back we stopped for a hot chocolate in Lueneburg.

Wie versprochen das Bild, welches ich am Samstag bei der Vorführung gemalt habe. Ich finde es sogar ein bisschen »freier und lockerer« als das von gestern. Ungewohnt beim Malen, war das »Verrenken«. Da ich mich ja nicht wie gewohnt direkt vors Bild stellen konnte, musste ich es immer etwas versetzt malen. Wird vielleicht eine neue Technik draus?

Four Onions Demo
As promised, the painting from my Saturday's demonstration. I think it's even a bit more »free and relaxed« than yesterday's. Unusual when painting was the »twist«. Since I could not make the usual way right in front of image, I had always to paint somewhat from besides. Perhaps, a new painting technique?

Die gestrige Vorführung bei boesner verlief erfolgreich ohne Verletzte und Zwischenfälle. Die Zuhörer waren fast zwei Stunden lang geduldig und interessiert. Besonders bewundernswert finde ich, dass sie dem schönen Wetter draußen getrotzt haben, um mich zu sehen. Ich habe das Bild dann auch schneller als gedacht fertiggestellt. Nebenher habe ich –hoffentlich erfolgreich– versucht einen kurzen Einblick ins Daily Painting zu geben.
Heute gibt's erst einmal das Bild, welches ich zur Vorbereitung gemalt hatte. 
Morgen dann das Demobild zum Vergleich. 
Wer bei der nächsten Vorführung dabei sein möchte, kann dies am 11. Juli 2015 von 11-13 Uhr bei boesner tun. 
Oder noch besser, meinen Kurs in der Kunstfabrik Hannover vom 7. - 9. Aug. 2015 buchen.


Four Onions
Yesterday's demonstration at »boesner« went off with no injuries and incidents. The audience was listening patiently for about two hours. Particularly admirable is the fact, that outside was waiting the sunniest day of the year so far. I completed the painting even faster than expected. Besides, I have -hopefully successful tried to give an insight into the life of daily painting. Today I will show you the preparation painting, I did before. Tomorrow, the demo image follows for comparison.
Who wants to be at the next demonstration can do so on July 11, 2015 from 11-13 clock at »boesner«art material shop.
Or even better, come to my workshop in the Kunstfabrik Hanover, August 7th - 9th, 2015.

Dieses Bild ist Teil der Spendenaktion.
Ein weiterer Test für die heutige Vorführung. Das gesetzte Limit war eine Stunde Zeit. Und es sollte ein Frühlingsmotiv sein. Daneben möchte ich ja noch ein bisschen erzählen. Bin gespannt und aufgeregt, wieviel Leute bei dem angesagten schönen Wetter den Weg zu boesner Hannover finden. Ich kann aber schon verraten, dass es nicht dieses Motiv wird.

Another test for today's live painting show. The limit I set was one hour. And it should be a spring motif. The rest of the time will be spend with explanations. I'm curious and a bit nervous. I can already tell that this will not be the painting motif.

Gestern beim Mittwochs-Plein-Air-Sketchen auf dem Lindener Bergfriedhof, wo, wie jedes Jahr die Scillablüte eine blauen Teppich bereitet. Es war noch sehr frisch draußen aber ich habe die Pinsel an meine Hände geschweißt.

Yesterday at our Wednesday's Plein-air-sketching on the Lindener Mountain Cemetery, where, as each year the Scillas prepare a blue carpet. It was still very fresh, but I had my freezing hands glued to the brushes.

So tomorrow the spring season will start, okay?

Reichlich Sonne zum Ostermontag lud mich zum ersten Spaghettieis des Jahres in die List ein. Haupsächlich wurde natürlich skizziert und gemalt. Das Motiv hatte ich bereits vorher schon einmal ausgesucht und schnell skizziert.

Plenty of sun on Easter Monday invited me for the first spaghetti ice cream this year in the district of List. Mainly of course came sketching and painting. I did a quick sketch in March previously.

Danke für euer Feedback zu diesem Bild. 

Ich habe mich entschlossen, dass das Bild noch eine Chance bekommt. Es ist zwar immer noch eher monochrom, aber nun ein wenig mehr in Orange-Braun-Tönen gehalten. Wie immer benutze ich beim Malen kein schwarz. Alles ist aus den Grundfarben rot, gelb und blau gemischt. Ich habe neben dem Bäcker noch seine Frau und seine Geliebte verewigt. Gefunden?

Thanks for your feedback on this image. 

I have decided that it gets another chance. Although it is still rather monochromatic, but now tuned in orange-brown tones. As always, I don't use the color black. Each tone is mixed from the primaries red, yellow and blue. 

I have added the baker's wife and his mistress into the picture.

Gestern war hier, in der grünsten Landshauptstadt Deutschlands alles von Hagel bis Sonnenschein vertreten. Allerdings lässt das Grün noch auf sich warten. Nun, zumindest grüne Vasen.

Yesterday, everything was represented by hail and sunshine here in the greenest county capital of Germany. However, the buds are still waiting to sprout.

In einer dunklen Ecke des Schranks warten die Mundharmonikas auf eine Mund-zu-Mund-Beatmung. Leider bleibt beim täglichen Malen und Arbeiten sehr wenig Zeit dafür. Aber als Motiv sind sie schon einmal auf dem Maltisch gelandet.

In a dark corner of the cabinet the harmonicas wait for a mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Unfortunately, the daily painting work takes most of the spare time. But hey, they already hijacked a place on the painting desk.

Dieses Bild habe ich als Experiment von einer sehr dunklen Leinwand aus begonnen. Daher mussten alle lichteren Stellen mehrfach übermalt werden, bis sie wirklich hell wurden. Sehr zeitaufwändig und nicht mein übliches Vorgehen. Aber um etwas Neues zu lernen, muss man manchmal aus seiner Komfortzone raus.

The Gambler

I started this painting as an experiment with a very dark canvas. Therefore, all the brighter points had to be painted over several times until they were really bright. Very time consuming and not my usual approach. But in order to learn something new, sometimes you have to get out of your comfort zone.

Aus traurigem aktuellen Anlass bewahrheitet sich wieder einmal sich, dass sich das Motiv den Maler sucht und nicht umgekehrt. Als Kind habe ich von Oma und Opa öfter Briefmarken von den Luftpostbriefen ausgewanderten Verwandten aus Amerika bekommen (leider keine Erbtante). Dies war 1977 und auch lange danach meine Lieblingsmarke.

Topically once again it proves true, that the subject seeks for the painter and not vice versa. As a child my Grandparents gave me stamps from American airmail letters of  some emigrated relatives (no rich aunt so). This stamp in 1977 was my long time favorite.
