First Meeting

On Sunday Hannover had its first organized Urban Sketching meeting.

It's carnival-time so I've picked appropriate stuff.

There's a story behind the title.

From the good old (golden) days of Loriot (a famous German comedy star).

Quick summary in English:

The interviewer asks the horror star Vic Dorn.

She: Who designed your mask? Could you take only once take off your mask? 

He: Designed? Take off? What mask?

This was funny when I was a kid and became a meme.

Ein Blick ins Land der in den letzten Tagen gemalten Oldtimer.
Ich finde es immer wieder beeindruckend, in Google Maps durch ferne Städte zu wandeln. So kann man sich zum Beispiel auf eine »virtuelle« Kreuzung stellen und dieses Bild malen.

A look into the country of the recently painted vintage cars.
It's always impressive to walk in Google Maps through distant cities.

Habe ich mir selber erlaubt. 

Diese heißen Formen aus den Sechzigern sind einfach phantastisch.

Stamme ja selber aus diesem Jahrzehnt ;)

Und der Dodge Polara ist von 1961.

Angeregt und inspiriert durch den aktuellen Aquarellkurs von Ingrid Buchthal in der Kunstfabrik Hannover (dem ich kurz als Beobachter beiwohnen durfte) habe ich heute eine Lampionblume als Motiv gewählt.

Encouraged and inspired by the watercolor course of Ingrid Buchenthal in the ArtFactory Hanover (which I was allowed to attend as an observer) I have chosen a physalis flower to be painted today.

Sie wurde mit den Illuminaten in Verbindung gebracht und spielt in vielen Verschwörungstheorien eine Rolle. Hier ist es die Hausnummer eines Hauses in L'Isle sur la Sorgue.

A »magic« prime number.

It has been associated with the Illuminati, and plays a role in many conspiracy theories. Here it is just the house number of a building in L'Isle sur la Sorgue.

1625 Notan

»Notan« kommt aus dem Japanischen und heißt soviel wie »hell und dunkel«.

Dies ist auch eine gute Übung fürs Malen, indem man die Bilder in diese Werte zerlegt und somit ein Gleichgewicht der Bildelemente und eine harmonische Komposition erzielt.

»Notan« comes from Japanese and means something like »light and dark«.

This is a good exercise for painters. By bringing the images into only these two values you can try to achieve a balance of picture elements and a harmonious composition.
