Nach dem Gouache-Experiment packte mich der Ehrgeiz, es mal wieder mit Ölmalerei zu versuchen. Als Motiv diente dieses Naturbild eines Felsenhaufens an einem norwegischen Fjord.

After my gouache experimental ambitions, I grabbed my oil colors just for fun. I've chosen this nature image of a rock pile served on a Norwegian fjord.

Bei dem Titel muss ich immer an dieses Schampoo aus Kindheitstagen denken.

Ob dafür echte Äpfel ihr Leben lassen müssen? 

Und werden für Anti-Schuppen-Schampoos kleine Holzhütten geopfert? 

Green Apple

When thinking about this title, a hair shampoo from my childhood days came in my mind. Are true green apples losing their lives for this stuff?

And what about anti dandruff shampoo?

What the heck does this word come from?

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the word dandruff is first attested in 1545, but is still of unknown etymology - source: wikipedia

1466 Engensen Plein Air

Beim Einkauf in einem schwedischen Möbelhaus (das mit den vier großen Buchstaben) fand ich einen Sonnenschirm zum Anklipsen an meine Staffelei (keine 7 EUR!). Diesen Schirm musste ich natürlich direkt ausprobieren. Das Wetter spielte mit. Sofern kein starker Wind weht, kann man das Experiment als gelungen bezeichnen. Bei Wind kippt wahrscheinlich der ganze Kladderadatsch um.

Yesterday I went shopping in a Swedish furniture store with four letters, I found an umbrella for clipping on my easel (for less than 8 U$). Of course I had to try this gadget right away. The weather was fine and if there's no strong wind this experiment can be described as a success.

Dies ist mein Beitrag zur DPW-Challenge dieser Woche.

The German common phrase "One cow makes mooh, many cows make trouble ..." can't be translated properly as you can see. So please take it, as it is.

Einige Mitglieder der Strichzähler-Truppe - Some members of the stroke-counting-crew 

Schade, schon der letzte Tag meines Workshops in der Kunstfabrik Hannover. Heute traute ich mich an eine »100 Striche-Demo«: Ich durfte maximal 100 einzelne Striche an diesem Weinreben-Bild machen. Mist! Die Teilnehmer haben natürlich akribisch jeden kleinsten Strich mitgezählt. Trotzdem eine nette und aufmerksame Truppe, die sich dort zusammenfand. Morgen folgt noch ein kleines Resümee mit ein paar Bildern. 

Hoffe, ihr hattet eine gute und sichere Rückreise.

Grape Leaf demo

Already the last day of my workshops in the ArtFfactory Hanover. Today I showed the »100 strokes demo«: I was allowed to make a maximum of 100 individual strokes on this vine-image.  Damn! My fellow participants meticulously counted every little stroke. A nice and attentive group working together under my command (hah!). Tomorrow follows a small summary with a few pictures. Hope you all had a save trip home.

1415 Heckenrose

Gestern habe ich zum dritten Mal in Folge im Garten malen können. Scheint nun wirklich Sommer zu sein. Im Atelier waren zwar auch "nur" 26°C, aber in der Sonne am Fenster zeigte das Thermometer 40°C. Die Wildrose jedenfalls freute sich über die ungewohnte Aufmerksamkeit.

1415 Dog Rose

For the third time in a row I painted in the garden. Now it really seems to be summer. In my studio it had 79 degrees fahrenheit. But at the window in the sun (where I used to paint) the thermometer showed 104 degrees Fahrenheit.

Anyway, the Wildrose seemed to be delighted by the unusual attention.

Golden Bells

If you paid attention yesterday ... today a looser work of the same theme. This time I used a palette knife. This is not my favorite technique. But I have to try from time to time.Below a photo of our "Lindenpainting" for the 900 years celebration of Hanover Linden in the town hall.

Werden auch Goldglöckchen genannt. Das klingt doch viel netter, oder? 
Ein paar der gelben Blüten (siehe Beitrag von gestern) sind also auch noch am Strauch.

Forsythia
Also calld Golden Bells (Goldglöckchen) in German. That sounds much nicer, right? 
So a couple of yellow flowers  are still on the bush (see yesterday's post).

Wer schon einmal unseren Vorgarten gesehen hat, weiß wie der Farn dort bald die beherrschende Position einnehmen wird. Momentan bereiten sich alle aufs Ausrollen vor. Das Wunder der Natur, seit Millionen von Jahren bewährt.

Anyone, who has seen our front yard, knows the fern's dominant position there. Currently, everyone's ready for rolling out. The wonders of nature, proven for millions of years.

Dieses Bild ist Teil der Spendenaktion.
Ein weiterer Test für die heutige Vorführung. Das gesetzte Limit war eine Stunde Zeit. Und es sollte ein Frühlingsmotiv sein. Daneben möchte ich ja noch ein bisschen erzählen. Bin gespannt und aufgeregt, wieviel Leute bei dem angesagten schönen Wetter den Weg zu boesner Hannover finden. Ich kann aber schon verraten, dass es nicht dieses Motiv wird.

Another test for today's live painting show. The limit I set was one hour. And it should be a spring motif. The rest of the time will be spend with explanations. I'm curious and a bit nervous. I can already tell that this will not be the painting motif.

Nach gestriger Skizze habe ich dann für heute das Acrylbild angefertigt.

Durch die Winterzeit-Umstellung werde ich wohl meist im Dunkeln nach Fotos arbeiten. Um die Farben möglichst realistisch zu malen, habe ich darum zwei starke Tageslichtlampen rechts und links von meiner Staffelei installiert. Diese Lampen strahlen meinem Empfinden nach zu sehr im blauen Spektrum und erscheinen daher etwas kalt.

Darum habe ich zum Ausgleich noch meine Deckenlampe mit etwas wärmerer Farbstrahlung als diffuses Licht an.

Painting of Leaves  

From yesterday's sketch, I painted this acrylic painting for today. 

Cause of the winter time I will now probably paint from photos mainly throughout the darker hours of the day. To paint the colors as realistic as possible, I have installed two strong daylight lamps on each side of my easel. Amho, these lamps strahlen emit too much rays in the blue spectrum and therefore appear somewhat cold. 

As a compensation, I have turned my ceiling lamp which diffuses an somewhat warmer light.

Am Wochenende haben wir in einem netten Landgut in Waldnähe gewohnt und einen schönen Spaziergang dort genossen. Zum Skizzieren war leider nicht viel Zeit. Diese Motive habe ich jedoch gestern noch geschafft.

On the weekend we stayed in a nice estate nearby a forest and enjoyed a nice walk there. There was not much time left for sketching. But I managed to sketch some small occurencies.
