Gestern waren wir im Künstlerdorf Deia in den Tramuntana Bergen (Bild oben). Der Ort ist schön gelegen und bekannt geworden durch den Dichter und Schriftsteller Robert Graves. Vorgestern abend entstand dann noch der Ausblick von der Restaurantterrasse unserer Finca.

Yesterday we visited the village Deia, which lies romantically on a hill in the Tramuntana Mountains. The place became famous cause of the poet and writer Robert Graves. The other sketch is the view from the terrace of our finca.

Gestern war ein schöner Sonnentag.
Das Bild habe ich direkt am Pool gemalt und zeigt den Ausblick auf einige Fincagebäude von Can Beneït.

Yesterday had been another marvelous day with much sun. 
I painted at the poolside and this is these are some buildings of our Finca Can Beneït.

Gestern ging es ganz früh morgens mit dem Flieger nach Mallorca. Dort erstmal zum Markt von Inca im Inselinneren und dort die erste Skizze gemacht und ge-spät-stückt. Am Nachmittag dann ein verunglücktes Acrylbild, was hier nicht erscheint, gemalt. Zum Abendessen gab es dann eine weitere Skizze vom Kirchplatz in Campanet.

Yesterday we took the first plane to Majorca early in the morning. Then we went to the market in Inca, which is in the centre of the island. Here I sketched the market people. I won't show you the poor acrylic painting from the afternoon, so it's up to the evening sketch of the church square of Campanet to step into the breach.

Auch als eher fußballuninteressierter Zeitgenosse habe ich natürlich bis zum Sieg der deutschen Nationalmannschaft mitgezittert. Schönes Spiel und schönes Bild.

Barn's Gate 

»Tor« in German means »gate« and »goal« at once!

Here, the goal (gate) of yesterday in close-up.

So the Germans might want to add »Goal! Goal! Goal! for Germany!.«, whereas »Gate! Gate! Gate!« sounds a bit stupid indeed. Though I am no soccer fan, of course I kept my fingers crossed until the final victory of the German national soccer team. Nice game and nice painting.

Ich schreibe diesen Text wenige Minuten vorm Beginn des WM-Endspiels gegen Argentinien. Leider nicht von der Copacabana, aber vom Hannover Strand zeige ich euch ein paar Eindrücke vom »Strandleben«, einer schönen Open-Air-Kneipe am Zusammenfluss von Ihme und Leine, wo auch immer gerne ausgiebig jedweder Anlass gefeiert wird.

Gestern (und heute): »Kunst in Bewegung« und meine Ausstellung in Burgwedel-Engensen. Gemeinsam mit dem Metallbildhauer Nikolas Walter verwandele ich eine grüße Scheune zur Kunstgalerie. Das Bild habe ich vor Ort gemalt und zeigt den Ausblick hinter der Scheune. Muss noch ein wenig nachbearbeitet werden...

Yesterday (and today): "Art in motion" and my exhibition in Burgwedel-Engensen. Together with the metal sculptor Nikolas Walter I transform a barn to an art gallery. I painted on location and this shows the view from behind the barn. Has to be reworked a bit...

Erneut eine Art von Kirchgarten, nur dass diese Kirche inzwischen eine Ruine ist und der Garten verwildert vor sich hin wuchert. Heute 14-20 h und Sonntag von 11–18 h könnt ihr mich in 30938 Burgwedel-Engensen – Hinter den Höfen 24 bei meiner Ausstellung besuchen.

Ruinous 

Again a kind of church garden, only that this church is now a ruin and the garden overgrown.

Am Mittwoch haben wir unser Skizziertreffen trotz des Regenwetters draußen an der Nikolaikirche in Hannover Limmer veranstalten können. Die Sonne brach sich den Weg durch die dicken Wolken und eine diesige Schwüle mit feuchtem Kanalgeruch schwang sich durch die Lüfte.

Nikolai Church Garden 

Despite the rainy weather on Wednesday, we hold our weekly sketching meeting outside. The sun broke her way through the thick clouds and a hazy humidity and the smell of moist smell of canalization swung through the air.

Heute ein Detail einer Wurzel eines amerikanischen Baumes. Das Ganze ist sehr grafisch geworden, gefällt mir aber -auch wegen der Farbgebung- ganz gut.

But I like it , also becausse of the colors.

Leider habe ich das nicht vor Ort gemalt, denn dann wäre ich schon im sonnigen Süden. Erst kommt aber noch »Burgwedel in Bewegung« am Wochenende und dann dauert es nicht mehr lang bis zum Urlaub.

Unfortunately, I have not painted on location, because then I would be now in the sunny south. But first comes »Burgwedel in motion« this weekend, And then it will not be long until our holidays.

Musste es doch noch nachschlagen, aber der figürlich, geometrische oder vegetabilisch gestaltete Rundbogen an Portalen wird als Archivolte bezeichnet. Eine dieser gebildhauerten Figuren ist wohl der Erzengel Gabriel. Na, wer hat ihn gefunden?

Where's Gabriel? 

I had to google this up, but the figurative, geometric or vegetable-shaped arch of portals is called archivolt. One of these sculpted figures is probably the archangel Gabriel. Will you find him?

Sommer im Schwarzwald und eine schöne Bank lädt den Spaziergänger am Wegesrand zum Verschnaufen ein. Ein nachgereichtes Motiv zu unserem Schwarzwaldtrip vom Juni.

Good Bench
Summer in the Blackwood Forest and a beautiful bench invites the walker along the way to take a breather one. A filed subsequently subject to our Black Forest trip in June.

Mohnblumen werden bei mir und meiner Frau -wie im Englischen- Poppies genannt. Ich weiß gar nicht mehr, wie es dazu kam. Werde da nochmal nachforschen. Sie blühen momentan hier jedenfalls wild überall rum.

My wife and me are calling them only poppies too, although we don't speak English often with other. I can not remember how this came about. Will investigate about this. Currently they are around here in full wild bloom everywhere.

Nahe am Plaça Ramon Llull, einem meiner tummeligen Lieblingsplätze Mallorcas, liegt die schöne  Kartause von Valldemossa. Diese ist eine der am meisten besuchten Sehenswürdigkeiten auf Mallorca. Fréderic Chopin verbrachte dort 1838/39 zusammen mit seiner Gespielin George Sand einen langen Winter und komponierte seine größten Tuberkulosehits...oder so.

Close to the Plaça Ramon Llull, one of my favorite lively places of Majorca, lies the beautiful Valldemossa Charterhouse. It is one of the most visited attractions on the island. In 1838/39 Frederic Chopin spent a long winter here together with his plymate George Sand and composed his greatest tuberculosis hits ... or so.

Dieses hier begann eigentlich als kleine Übung auf einem Stück Probe-Aquarellpapier von boesner. Während der Speillänge der CD »synkronized« von Jamiroquai, wurde daraus eine nette Studie. Mehr aber auch nicht.
Fazit 1: Man kann auf dickem Aquarellpapier auch prima mit Acrylfarben arbeiten.
Okay, das wusste ich aber bereits vorher ;)
Fazit 2: Auch nicht neu: Man sollte eigentlich viel mehr experimentieren!
Testhalber startet die Auktion diesmal mit 1 $ (zuzüglich Versandkosten).

This one actually started as a small exercise on a sample of watercolor paper from boesner. While in the background Jamiroquai's »synkronized" was playing, it became a nice study. That's all. 
Conclusion 1: You can nicely work with acrylics on thick watercolor paper. 
But I already knew this before ;) 
Conclusion 2: You should really experiment a lot more! Ahem, this is also known. 
As a test, this auction starts at 1$.

Diese mallorquinische Stadt hat das schönes Santuari de San Salvador auf dem Berg. Und wenn man da wieder auf der Straße runtergeht kann man schön kucken und Fotos machen. Und Jahre später diese dann malen.

This Majorcan town has the beautiful Sanctuary of San Salvador on top of a hill. And when you stroll down the road, you'll have a beautiful sightseeing and you can take tons of photos to paint from, even years later.

Wie so vieles im Leben, kommt es auf die Werte an. So auch beim Malen der Landschaft auf dem Weg nach Son Marroig an der Westküste Mallorcas. Da ich gestern wieder eindeutig zu dunkel geworden bin, habe ich heute erst einmal eine Grauwertstudie gemacht und danach erst die Farben angelegt. Manchmal muss man eben »back to the basics« gehen, damit etwas draus wird. Zum Vergleich kann man sich die Farbwert-Skizzen und das Original unten anschauen.

Values of Son Marroig
Like many things in life, values are important. Expecially when painting. Here I go again.
»Back to the basics«. Since yesterday's painting has become too dark, today I have started this landscape near Son Marroig (Majorca) with a gray value study. Then I applied the colors. So this one turned out good, I think. For comparison, I put the color value sketches and the original below.
