Am Samstag habe ich den Kurs von Jens Hübner für die Kunstfabrik fotografiert. Am Samstag hat sich der Urban Sketching Kurs u.a. auf dem Flohmarkt getroffen. Nach getaner Arbeit habe ich ebenfalls noch eine Skizze gemacht. Die Woche davor habe ich ganz in der Nähe schon mal gezeichnet. 

Heute treffen sich die Urban Sketchers Hannover um 11 Uhr am Döhrener Turm.

Saturday, I took some photos of Jens Huebner's workshop at the art factory. The urban sketchers met at the flea market. I mage a sketch for myself after the work was done. The week before I had drawn just around the corner.

Der vierte Tag war der bisher erfolgreichste und produktivste. Nach der offiziellen Kurszeit kehrte Ruhe in die Kunstfabrik ein. Ich habe dann noch dieses kleinere Bild in Nutzung der neuen Erkenntnisse gemalt.

Am Dienstag haben wir die Arbeitsweise der Dozentin Gaby Dotter kennengelernt.

Zuerst haben wir unser Gegenüber zeichnen dürfen.

Nach weiteren Zeichne-Übungen begann ich nach der regulären Kurszeit 

noch eine schnelle Acrylstudie nach meiner Skizze "expressiv" umzusetzen. 

Das Modell möge mir verzeihen ;)

Today we met our workshop leader Gaby Dotter.

First we were drawing our table companion.

After the regular time I began to paint a bit.

Bin noch immer in Übungslaune und habe gestern 4 Himmelsbilder in 75 Minuten geschafft. Außer dem Himmel sind auch noch zwei alte Scheunen, eine Fischerhütte auf Java und die Serengeti zu sehen. Die Übung war erneut, schnell zu malen. Diesmal sollte sich ein wenig »Stimmung« dazugesellen. 

Four Skies

I am still in an exercise mood and did 4 sky pictures in 75 minutes. Apart from the sky  even two old barns, a fisherman's hut on Java and the Serengeti can be seen. The exercise was again to paint efficiently and quickly. 

This time, a little »mood« should be seen.

Ab morgen bin ich in der Kunstfabrik Hannover beim Portraitmalkurs mit Gaby Dotter.

Bin schon sehr gespannt; wie ihr wisst, sind Portraits meine Achillesferse.

Tomorrow I am in the portrait painting class with Gaby Dotter at the Art Factory Hannover. I am sooo excited as you know, I am a lame duck in doing portraits.

Habe gestern in unserem Garten meinen Beitrag zu James Gurneys Wettbewerb gemalt. Bei 35°C im Schatten. Das Unkraut hat natürlich überlebt und ist immer noch unterm Tisch.

Die Farben sind etwas dunkler als auf dem Bildschirm!

Heute habe ich erneut die Schnell-Mal-Übung vom Wochenende praktiziert. 

Allerdings habe ich mir diesmal pro Motiv 15 Minuten gegeben.

Meine »Erkenntnisse« hieraus:

• Man geht 4 "gleichzeitige" Motive lockerer an, als 4 einzelne
• Man erkennt schnell, welche Farbe im einzelnen Motiv vorherrscht
• Man spart sich aufwändiges Mischen und versucht die Farben in jedem Bild unterzubringen
• Dadurch verwendet man automatisch eine reduzierte Palette
• Der Himmel wird bei mir am Ende gemalt und bringt erst die Stimmung
• Es kommt nicht immer auf die Zeit an, die man pro Bild investiert
• Man bekommt schnell ein sicheres Gespür dafür, welches Motiv auch in größerem Format funktionieren würde

Today I practiced again my quick painting exercise from this weekend.

However, I gave myself a bit more time: Per painting about 15 minutes.

Some of my »insights«:

• 4 "simultaneous" painted motives look looser than 4 individual paintings
• You'll find out quickly what color predominates each scene
• It saves time while mixing and using the sme colors in each image
• Your palette will automatically reduce 
• I paint the sky always in the end and this brings the mood to the painting
• It's not about how long you paint a picture - it's about the outcome
• You'll quickly get a sure sense of what image will work in a larger format too
