Couch Potatoes

Manchmal ist ein ganz müder Tag und man möchte eigentlich nur auf dem Sofa abhängen. Für solche Gelegenheiten wurde die Sofakartoffel erfunden. War ich aber nicht, da ich das ja gezeichnet habe. Bin wieder einmal bei Dr. Sketchy's gewesen und dort wurde ein ausgeschlafenes Oktoberfest gefeiert. An dessen Ende waren dann doch alle auf eine kreative Art erschöpft.

Sometimes it is a very tired day and you really want to hang out on the sofa. For such occasions, the couch potato was invented. Indeed, I was none, since I have been drawing once again at Dr. Sketchy's. But after their Oktoberfest - I am really tired now.

Mittagspausenphilosophen

Wieder ein größeres Format vom Wochenende, dass ich heute fertiggestellt habe. Jeden Mittag vergesellschaften sich die Büroangestellten der Büros von Downtown Toronto an der Ampel, um ihre Mittagspause im Schnellrestaurant oder im Park zu verbringen.

Lunch Philosophers
Again a larger format from the weekend that I now have completed. Every lunchtime, the office clerks from Downtown Toronto socialize at the traffic lights in order to spend their lunch hour in the fast-food restaurant or in the park.

Bully

Unseren schönen alten VW Bus von 1972 gibt es leider schon längst nicht mehr. Er brachte uns in Studienzeiten oft quer durch Europa. Über Berg und Tal. Von Trondheim im Norden bis Florenz im Süden. Mit gemächlichen 90 km/h Höchstgeschwindigkeit war dies eine echt coole und entspannte Art zu reisen. Und eine billige Art zu campen. 

Our beautiful old VW bus of 1972 does no longer exist since a very long time. In our university years he brought us all across Europe many times. Over steep hills and through deep dales. From Trondheim in the north to Florence in the south. With lazy 55 miles top speed, this was a really cool and relaxed way to travel. And a cheap way to camp.

Heute gibt es ausnahmsweise zuerst nur die Vorskizze zu einem größeren Format. Morgen wird hier dann das vollendete Werk vorgestellt. 
So bleibt ein bisschen Spannung, was daraus wohl wird.

La Wiese

Kurz vor dem Blätterfall gibt es die Wiese noch ohne Laub. Mal wieder nett, an der alten Wirkungsstätte in Marburg zu arbeiten. Heute geht der Kurs noch weiter, mal sehen, was noch so entsteht. 

La Meadow
Just before they fall, there still is grass without too many leaves on top. After a long time, it's nice to work at old places in Marburg. Today, the painting class goes on, let's see what results it will bring.

Meeressturm

Dieser Wolkenbruch tobte über der Ostsee, während wir im Trockenen in unserem VW-Camper saßen und »Kältezone« von Arnaldur Indriðason als Hörbuch lauschten. Der Regen setzt sich leider momentan in unseren Breiten überall ein wenig zu herbstlich durch, finde ich.

This downpour raged across the Baltic Sea, while we stayed in our dry VW camper  and listened to »The draining lake« by Arnaldur Indriðason as an audiobook. This constant raining of the last days gets on my nerves.

Dr. House

Ein wenig windschief und verwegen. Mit sehr eigenem Charme und Charakter. Mal bedrohlich, aber auch genial. Dieses »House« steht stets am Abgrund. Ob es wohl von den blühenden Rosen errettet werden kann? 
Das Motiv des heutigen Daily Paintings ist das Film-Wohnhaus eines gewissen Norman B. (Nur für den Fall, dass es niemand gemerkt hat.)

A little askew and daring. With its very own charm and character. Also threatening as awesome. This »House« is permanently on the edge. Whether it can be well saved by the blooming roses?

Ein Bild aus munteren Schwedenurlaubstagen verschönert euch den Donnerstag. Unter unserem schwedenrot gestrichenen Gartenhaus hat sich eine niedliche Igelfamilie breitgemacht. Einfach süß die tapsigen Stachler.

Waldweg

Für Baumfans wie mich, ist der Herbst natürlich eine Zeit, in der man eigentlich andauernd ins Gehölz ziehen will, um Farbe aufzutanken. Noch überwiegt das Grün. Aber schon bald werden uns leuchtende Herbsttöne betören und uns auf farbenfrohe Daily Paintings hoffen lassen.

For tree fans like me, the fall is of course a time when you permanently want to refill your color tank by walking into the woods. Still outweighs the green. But soon we will bewitched by bright autumn colors. This will hopefully lead to some colorful daily paintings.

Palmenwald

Auch heute sehe ich den Wald vor lauter Bäumen nicht. Allerdings ist dies ein angelegter Wald in San Franciscos Golden Gate Park. (Seufz) ...es bleibt einfach eine schöne Stadt.

Nebelwald

Der Nebel wallt im Nebelwald. Besonders im tropischen. Farne, Moose und Flechten hängen von den Bäumen herab und »das Tier« (wie unser Dschungel-Mitwanderer auf Réunion den Nebel gern bezeichnet) senkt sich darnieder. 

Cloud Forest
The mist wells down to the tropical cloud forest. Ferns, mosses and lichens are hanging down from the trees and »the animal« (like our jungle fellow hiker often called the Réunion fog) sinks down upon the trees.

Hier geht nichts mehr. Die Fensterläden sind vernagelt. Die Schlösser sind verrostet. Der Putz bröckelt. Die Türangeln sind herausgebrochen. Oder gibt es bald einen Käufer, der alles restauriert?

Cable Dance

Seht ihr die tanzende Schattenfrau unten auf der Wand? Ich liebe sowas! Da malt man nichtsahnend eine unromantische Kabelverteilerdose an einer venezianischen Hauswand im herbstlichen Sonnenlicht. Und obwohl es eigentlich ein Lampenschatten werden sollte, erscheint aus dem Nichts Mama Miracoli.

Did you recognize the dancing shadow woman on the wall? I love that! You try to paint an unromantic unsuspecting cable junction box on a Venetian house wall in the autumn sunlight. And although it should be a lamp shade, appears out of nowhere Mama Miracoli.

Wegskizzen

Inzwischen nehme ich bei fast jedem Trip in die City oder zu Veranstaltungen in Freizeit und Beruf ein Skizzenbüchlein mit. Und oft ergibt sich bei einer Pause im Café oder bei einem Konzert die Gelegenheit den Zeichenstift zu zücken. Heute mal zwei Beispiele, unter anderem von der langen Nacht der Kirchen in Hannover am Freitag und vom Hofcafé Mittelrode.

Road Sketches
Meanwhile, I take my sketchbook on almost every trip to the city and to all kind of evets. And often I pull out the pen on a short coffebreak or at a concert. Today two examples. From the long night of the churches in Hanover on Friday and from an Farm Café in Middle Rode.

Timberland

Auf manche Motive freut man sich, wie ein Schneekönig. Dies ist eines davon. Seit heute ist offiziell Herbst. Und dies ist das Timber Cove Inn in California im Herbst vor 7 Jahren. Einfach herrlich gelegen. Hier gab es mein erstes Hotelzimmer mit Hot Tub und hier habe ich meinen ersten Waschbären in freier Wildbahn gesehen. Okay, es war wohl eher im vollem Mülleimer. Aber immerhin bei Sonnenuntergang.

On some subjects I looked forward, merry as a lark. This is one of them. Since today is officially autumn. This shows the Timber Cove Inn in California in the fall of 7 years ago. Located just gorgeous. Here was my first hotel room with hot tub, and here I saw my first raccoon in the wild. Okay, it was in a full trash can. But at least at sunset.
