Dieses Motiv aus der kanadischen Metropole Toronto fand ich für ein Acrylbild immer zu langweilig. Oben im Atelier unterm Dach steht noch der »Nachtmann« auf der Staffelei. Und es ist dort weder aufgeräumt noch geheizt. Und da die Aquarellsachen von gestern noch im Grafikstudio rumlagen, habe ich es kurzerhand eine Etage tiefer »am (Computer-) Tisch« in Wasserfarbe umgesetzt.

Through the City

The foto from the Canadian metropolis Toronto I always thought to be too boring to be realized as an acrylic painting. Up in my studio in the attic still the »Watchman« is on the easel. Neither the room is tidied nor heated. And since the watercolor stuff from yesterday still was lying around in my »graphics studio«, I simply watercolored it here.

ein Eckgeschäft selbigen Namens in Toronto. Auch wenn's schwerfällt zu glauben, gab es gestern bei uns keine Pizza, sondern lecker geschmorte Rote Bete mit Lamm à la professeur.

Ich wollte eigentlich nicht so detailreich werden. Aber manchmal entwickelt es sich eben so. Ich mag die Stimmung und das Licht. Die Vorlage dieses Daily Paintings ist ein Foto aus Toronto, irgendwo im Universitätsviertel. Könnte Baldwin Street sein. 

I did not want to be paint as detailed as it got. But sometimes things develop on their own. I like the mood and the light. The original for this painting is a photo from Toronto, somewhere in the university district. Might be Baldwin Street.

Mittagspausenphilosophen

Wieder ein größeres Format vom Wochenende, dass ich heute fertiggestellt habe. Jeden Mittag vergesellschaften sich die Büroangestellten der Büros von Downtown Toronto an der Ampel, um ihre Mittagspause im Schnellrestaurant oder im Park zu verbringen.

Lunch Philosophers
Again a larger format from the weekend that I now have completed. Every lunchtime, the office clerks from Downtown Toronto socialize at the traffic lights in order to spend their lunch hour in the fast-food restaurant or in the park.

...nennt man das langsame umherfahren mit dem Auto, welches in den 1950er Jahren entstanden ist. Manche kanadische Kleinstädte (wie hier Port Perry) haben sich wahrscheinlich optisch seitdem nur wenig verändert.

...is called a social activity that primarily consists of driving a car. It originated in the 1950s. Some Canadian small towns (like here Port Perry) have probably changed very little visually since then.

Nachdem ich vorgestern die New Yorker Taxis in Toronto gezeigt habe, wollte ich mit einem echten Torontoer Taxi nicht hinter dem Berg halten. Obwohl, »Stiel-Blüten« waren doch gestern. Mann, diese Hitze... Wusstet ihr, dass »Stilblüte« auf englisch »bloomers« heißt?

Mill Street

Als bekennender Nicht-Biertrinker kann ich diese kanadische Biersorte hier besten Gewissens nennen. Ob's schmeckt weiß ich also nicht. Die Brauerei im Destillery District von Toronto macht jedenfalls macht optisch was her.

As a professed non-beer drinker, I can mention this Canadian beer here with a clear conscience. Whether it tastes or not, I really don't know. Give yourself go. At least, the brewery in the Distillery District of Toronto, makes a permanent impression.

Das rechte Gegenstück zum gestrigen Bild. Das blaue Vehikel schafft die blaue Balance. Dieser Buick Electra ist genauso alt wie ich und lässt die Autos heutiger Tage wie Spielzeuge aussehen.

Parkende Autos sind eigentlich langweilig. Doch der schöne blaue Hintergrund der Halle hat mir gefallen.
In den Fenstern spiegelt sich noch die Morgenröte.
Morgen folgt die rechte Hälfte des Gesamtwerkes.

Parked cars are really boring. But the beautiful blue background of the halls had appealed to me.
The aurora still has been reflected in the window panes.
Tomorrow follows the right half of the total work.

Hängematte

Manchmal braucht man es besonders, einen Tag in der Hängematte ausklingen zu lassen, sonnige Lichtreflexe auf der Netzhaut zu empfangen und dem Summen der Vögel und Bienen zu lauschen, um trübe Gedanken und Trauer zu verjagen.

Sometimes you need it most, to end up the day lying in the hammock, receiving sunny rays of light on the retina and listen to the birds and bees to chase away gloomy thoughts and grief.

...ist ein etwas freakiger Stadtteil von Toronto. Vom Chinesentrödel, 2nd-Hand-Kram bis hin zum Hanfladen und anderen eklektischen Shops ist hier alles hip und hop und retro und progressiv zugleich. Soll man den ganzen Krimskrams auch noch malen?
Nöö.
Mein Bild zeigt darum eine eher ruhige Straßenflucht.

...is a little freaky neighborhood of Toronto. From Chinese junk, 2nd-hand stuff up to hemp stores and other eclectic shops. Everything is hip and hop and retro and progressive at the same time.Should I paint the whole paraphernalia?
Nah.
Therefore my picture shows a rather quiet street alignment.

Rot hoch 4

Endlich habe ich mir erlaubt, wieder Ampeln zu malen.
Wusste gar nicht, wie sehr ich das vermisst habe.
Diese hängt über einer Kreuzung in Kingston, Ontario.
Auch bei diesem Daily Painting habe ich versucht, mit wenigen Farben auszukommen. So wurde alles aus Rotbraun, Dunkelblau, und Sonnengelb gemischt und mit Weiß und Schwarz abgetönt. Zum Schluss wurde noch die Ampel mit Karminrot gefärbt und hier und da etwas damit lasiert.

Today I feel free to show you some traffic lights again.
Did not know how much I missed that.
This one controls a crossing in Kingston, Ontario.
Also, in this daily painting I tried to get along with a few colors. So everything was mixed from red-brown, dark blue, and sunny yellow and was tinted with white and black. Finally, the lights were colored with carmine.

In Bayfield scheint die Zeit an manchen Tagen stillzustehen. So jedenfalls in der angenehm schattigen Mittagswärme dieses Vorgartens. Könnt ihr die Grillen zirpen hören und wie der Wind leise in den Blättern rauscht?

Summer Tires
In Bayfield, the time seems to stand still on some days. At least, in the midday heat of this shady front yard. Can you hear the crickets chirping and the wind rustling softly in the leaves?
