Jedes Jahr zu Pfingsten ist in ganz Deutschland Mühlentag. Dann kann man viele Mühlen besichtigen und es gibt Fress- und Verkaufsstände und meist sehr viele ehrenamtlich Tätige, die alles erklären und Spaß daran haben. Ich habe uns zum Malen prompt eine geschlossene Mühle ausgesucht. Bei den anderen, die ich besichtigt habe, hatte es noch geregnet. Danach gings ins herrliche Storchencafé in Estorp.

Mill Day 2015

Every year at Pentecost it's »Mill Day« throughout Germany. You can visit many mills and usually a lot of volunteers enjoy explain everything. I promptly picked us a closed mill to paint. It was raining, when I visited some others before. After the working part, I had a coffee and cake in the beautiful Stork Café in Estorp.

This sunny Penetcost Sunday we went for a little bike ride and for sketching to a park nearby. We found a beautiful old railway bridge and the the tranquility of the Anna ponds.

Wenn es warm wird in Venedig, werden die Fenster geöffnet. Hierbei kommen nicht nur die altbewährten Jalousien als Sonnenschutz in Frage. Noch einfacher sind diese Art von Außen-Vorhängen.

Venetian Blinds
When it is hot in Venice, the windows are opened. This is the great time for the Venetian blinds. But they probably are not invented in Venice. As many things, they might came from Egypt or China. Even simpler in use are these kind of outdoor curtains.

Ein kleiner Ausflug nach Nordwest in den Park der Gärten in Bad Zwischenahn.

Leider zuwenig Zeit, um ein großes bild zu malen. Wird aber sicher noch nachgeholt, da ich sehr viele schöne Fotos der verschiedensten Bauern-, Pool-, Party- und Nutzgärten machen konnte.

A short trip to north west in the park of the gardens in Bad Zwischenahn.

Unfortunately, too little time to paint a big one. But certainly this will come soon, cause I made a lot of good photos of various farmer-, pool-, party- and kitchen-gardens.

Von einem Kanal zum nächsten... Heute ein Kanal in Ostfriesland, der direkt hinter dem Haus unserer Freunde verläuft. Nordisch herb ist hier nicht nur das Bier (das ich ja bekanntlich nicht trinke), sondern auch die Temperaturen beim Freiluftmalen.

From one canal to the next ... Today a canal in East Frisia, which lies directly behind our friend's house. Nordic herb is not only the regional beer (you might know, that I don't drink beer at all), but the temperatures for outdoor painting are herb as well.

However, the stages are always slippery and full of algae.

Mein erstes Acrylbild nach dem Venedigurlaub. Das Farbenmischen und die andere Arbeitsweise habe ich doch ein wenig vermisst. Zum Glück funktioniert es noch. Man zweifelt ja immer ein wenig.

My first acrylic painting after my vacation in Venice. It's quite a bit different way of working with acrylics. Fortunately it still works. I thin I am not the only one who feels unsure, that it still will work after a week's break.

One last straggler from my vacation in Venice. You see, I've been busy. Of course, there are plenty of red houses in venice, but these are particulary beautiful.

Ein weiteres Aquarell, welches ich en plein air in der Serenissima gemalt habe. Serenus bedeutet heiter, gelassen und ruhig und das beschreibt unsere Malwoche in Venedig doch exakt! Vom Campo San Stin aus haben wir die Wahlplakate der kommenden Kommunalwahl bewundert. 
Okay, und die Kirche. Die Basilika ist der größte gotische Sakralbau von Venedig. 
Ich habe extra 'ne Katze und aus Versehen ein Nilpferd reingemalt. Na, gefunden?

Another plein air watercolor from the Serenissima. This term is also used for Venice. Serenus means serene, calm and relaxed. And that describes exactly what our painting week in Venice was about. From the Campo San Stin, we admired the posters of the upcoming local elections. Okay, and the Church. The Basilica is the largest gothic religious building in Venice. I intentionally painted a cat and accidentally inserted a hippopotamus.

Gestern war der Rückflug nach Hannover. Weil wir so viel gemalt haben, habe ich noch ein paar Bilder im Vorlauf. Heute eine Skizze vom Punta della Salute auf den Markusplatz. Diesen haben wir erst gar nicht besucht, da die Stadt auch so schon voll genug mit Menschen war.

Yesterday was the flight back to Hannover. I still have a few paintings in advance. Today a sketch ofrom the Punta della Salute to St. Mark's Square which we have not even visited, because the city was crowded enough.

Unser letzter Maltag in Venedig führte uns nochmal auf den Fischmarkt. Am Sonntag kann man hier die leere Markthalle malen. Wenn dann noch die Sonne durch die Vorhänge fällt, lacht das Malerherz.

Red Curtains
Our final painting day in Venice lead us again to the fish market. On Sundays you can paint the empty market hall here. It's spectacular, when the sun falls through the red curtains.

Wieder hatten wir eine heißen und sonnigen Mal-Vormittag. Diesmal sind wir mit dem Vaporetto Nummer 2 von Marcuole aus auf die Insel Guidecca gefahren. Weniger Touristen und viel Ruhe... Danach überraschte uns auf der Uferpromenade des Restaurante ein kleiner Regenguss. Zum Glück war das Bild schon in der Tasche in Sicherheit.

Again we had a hot and sunny painting morning. This time we took the water bus number 2 from Marcuole to the island Giudecca. Fewer tourists and peaceful atmosphere. Then a sudden downpour surprised us on the waterfront of a small Restaurante. Fortunately the painting was already safed in the bag.

Sitze gerade am Canal an der Ponte de Canaregio und genieße den Abend in der Stadt. Heute haben wir am Wasser gesessen und gemalt. Irgendwie ist hier überall ein Motiv. Am Tag entstehen meist zwei und manchmal drei Bilder. Und dann mache ich noch Skizzen im Zeichenbuch. Also echt Arbeit... na, nicht wirklich....

I'm sitting straight on the Canal at the Ponte de Canaregio and I am enjoying the evening in the city. Today we sat and painted the water. Everywhere is a motive. The day usually results in two and sometimes three paintings. And then I do some sketches in sketchbook. So this is kind of working... well not really...

Donnerstag haben wir am Canal Grande gestanden und die Kirche San Geremia gemalt. Der ständige Wasserverkehr und das Plätschern des Wassers sowie der Touristenstrom auf dem Uferweg zeigen, wie lebendig (andere sagen hektisch) diese oft totgesagte Stadt ist.

Thursday we were standing on the Grand Canal and painted the church of San Geremia. The constant water traffic and the sound of water and the flow of tourists on the riverside trail showed me how alive this city is.

Gestern haben wir den lokalen Fischmarkt gemalt. Da sich hier ganz Venedig trifft, hat man viele, manchmal auch unfreiwillig komische Kommentare unf Begegnungen mit Rinheimischen und Touristen.

Yesterday we painted the local fish market. Here the whole population of Venice is meeting. Sometimes this is the beginning of some very strange conversation. But mostly very funny.

Heute hatten wir unseren ersten Maltag in Venedig. Direkt um die Ecke von unseren Unterkünften gibt es bereits die schönsten und malerischsten Motive. Auch da Wetter spielt mit und ich kann in meiner liebsten Malkleidung rumlaufen. Spruch des Tages (bei der abendlichen Motivsuche im dunklen Venedig): "Hier kann man auch toll malen, man sieht das jetzt nur nicht..." Und das an 5 verschiedenen Stellen der Stadt...

Today we had our first Painting day in Venice. Just around the corner from our accommodation there are beautiful and picturesque motifs. The weather too is great, and I can walk around in my favorite painting gear. Quote of the day (while walking through the nocturnal dark city of Venice: "Here's a wonderful paintibg spot, that you can't see right now... our guide told us five times or so...

Hier ein Eindruck davon in Wasserfarbe im Skizzenbuch. 

Gestern ging es mit einer kleinen Gruppe auf eine einwöchige Malreise nach Venedig. Bin schon sehr aufgeregt und gespannt auf die Stadt.

Morgen findet ihr dann hier das erste Plein-Air-Aquarell dieser Stadt von mir.

Auf dem Rückweg nach Hannover hat unsere Truppe noch einen Zeichenstopp in Clausthal Zellerfeld eingelegt. Hier steht die größte deutsche Holzkirche aus dem Jahre 1642.

1353 Lindener Markt

• Skizze / Sketch in Sketchbook - 20,5 x 14,7 cm •

Nach dem gestrigem Aufhängen des Bildes im Rathaus gab es noch einen Kaffee gegenüber. Kaffee = Zeit zum Skizzieren = Bild im Skizzenbuch :) Ab heute gibt es hier die nächste Zeit vermehrt Skizzen, Aquarelle und Reiseeindrücke zu sehen. Übers Wochenende bin ich im Harz unterwegs und danach geht es für eine Woche auf eine spannende Malreise. Wohin verrate ich noch nicht.

Linden Market
After yesterday's hanging of the Linden Painting there was time to sip a coffee in front of the town hall. Coffee = time for sketching = painting an image into the sketchbook :) From now on I'm going to show you sketches, watercolors and travel impressions. For the prolongued weekend, I'm traveling into the Harz Mountains and then I'm off for a week to an exciting painting journey. Stay tuned, it will be a wonderful destination for all painters.

Golden Bells

If you paid attention yesterday ... today a looser work of the same theme. This time I used a palette knife. This is not my favorite technique. But I have to try from time to time.Below a photo of our "Lindenpainting" for the 900 years celebration of Hanover Linden in the town hall.

Werden auch Goldglöckchen genannt. Das klingt doch viel netter, oder? 
Ein paar der gelben Blüten (siehe Beitrag von gestern) sind also auch noch am Strauch.

Also calld Golden Bells (Goldglöckchen) in German. That sounds much nicer, right? 
So a couple of yellow flowers  are still on the bush (see yesterday's post).

Anyone, who has seen our front yard, knows the fern's dominant position there. Currently, everyone's ready for rolling out. The wonders of nature, proven for millions of years.

Unser Malevent in Celle ist leider wegen drohendem Schlechtwetter abgesagt worden. Ich hatte trotzdem Lust, heute draußen en Plein-Air zu malen. Und was bietet sich da immer als lohnendes Motiv? Das schöne Rathaus von Hannover. Schließlich begann es wie vorausgesagt irgendwann zu regnen, sodass ich etwas weiter entfernt unter ein Glasdach gezogen bin. Merke: »Plein-Air-Malen« heißt auch bei jedem Wetter draußen malen. Und in Venedig ist ja auch überall Wasser...

Venice in Hannover

The plein air painting event in Celle has unfortunately been canceled due to the threat of bad weather. I still felt like painting outside today. The top motif in Hanover is the town hall. Finally, the raindrops keep on falling as predicted. So I change the position and finished the artwork under a glass roof. Note: »Plein-Air-Painting« also means painting outside in any weather. And in Venice's also there's water everywhere ...

Ob das alles Äpfel werden? Das Original ist ein wenig dunkler als mein Photo.

Apple Blossoms

Our small apple tree in the garden has quite a lot of beautiful red-violet blossoms. 

Will that all become apples? The original painting is a bit darker than my photo.

Dieser schöne alte Pick-Up-Truck stand dereinst im schönen Toronto und musste bis jetzt auf seine Umsetzung als Daily Painting warten. Ich habe versucht, den Hintergrund bewusst zu vernachlässigen und unscharf werden zu lassen. 

This beautiful old pickup truck once happened to wait on the streetside one beautiful day in the wonderful Toronto. I had to wait quite a long time until its conversion into a daily painting. I have tried to neglect the background and to blur it somehow.

Ich weiß gar nicht, wann ich das letzte Mal auf einer Kirmes gewesen bin. Wahrscheinlich irgendwann in den 90ern auf dem Öcher Bend. Gestern hat unsere Aquarell / Sketchinggruppe das »Weltenflug« Kettenkarussell auf dem Frühlingsfest am Schützenplatz gemalt. feine Sache. Besonders, wenn man nur von unten kucken muss. 

Fairground Attractions
I don't know when I was the last time at a fairground. Guess it must be in the late nineties in Aix-La-Chapelle. Yesterday our sketching / watercolor group painted the »Weltenflug« merry-go-round on the Hanoverian fairground. It's good to have the spectator's view only.
