Manchmal braucht man es besonders, einen Tag in der Hängematte ausklingen zu lassen, sonnige Lichtreflexe auf der Netzhaut zu empfangen und dem Summen der Vögel und Bienen zu lauschen, um trübe Gedanken und Trauer zu verjagen.

Hammock
Sometimes you need it most, to end up the day lying in the hammock, receiving sunny rays of light on the retina and listen to the birds and bees to chase away gloomy thoughts and grief.

Kensington Market

...ist ein etwas freakiger Stadtteil von Toronto. Vom Chinesentrödel, 2nd-Hand-Kram bis hin zum Hanfladen und anderen eklektischen Shops ist hier alles hip und hop und retro und progressiv zugleich. Soll man den ganzen Krimskrams auch noch malen?
Nöö.
Mein Bild zeigt darum eine eher ruhige Straßenflucht.

...is a little freaky neighborhood of Toronto. From Chinese junk, 2nd-hand stuff up to hemp stores and other eclectic shops. Everything is hip and hop and retro and progressive at the same time.Should I paint the whole paraphernalia?

Rot hoch 4

Endlich habe ich mir erlaubt, wieder Ampeln zu malen.
Wusste gar nicht, wie sehr ich das vermisst habe.
Diese hängt über einer Kreuzung in Kingston, Ontario.
Auch bei diesem Daily Painting habe ich versucht, mit wenigen Farben auszukommen. So wurde alles aus Rotbraun, Dunkelblau, und Sonnengelb gemischt und mit Weiß und Schwarz abgetönt. Zum Schluss wurde noch die Ampel mit Karminrot gefärbt und hier und da etwas damit lasiert.

Today I feel free to show you some traffic lights again.
Did not know how much I missed that.
This one controls a crossing in Kingston, Ontario.
Also, in this daily painting I tried to get along with a few colors. So everything was mixed from red-brown, dark blue, and sunny yellow and was tinted with white and black. Finally, the lights were colored with carmine.

In Bayfield, the time seems to stand still on some days. At least, in the midday heat of this shady front yard. Can you hear the crickets chirping and the wind rustling softly in the leaves?

Bahnübergang

Auf nahezu gerader östlicher Linie, 1.800 Meilen vom Yellowstone Park entfernt, liegt Bracebridge, Ontario. Somit zeigt das heutige, 333. Daily Painting (endlich?) mal wieder ein kanadisches Motiv.

Situated on an almost straight line of 1.800 miles to the east from the Yellowstone Park, you'll find Bracebridge, Ontario. So my 333rd daily painting shows an Canadian theme again.

0332 Yellowstone V

Kleiner Schlenker zu den Beaver Ponds, die übrigens in den 3% des Parks liegen, der montanaisch ist. 1% ist idahoig, die restlichen 97% wyomingisch.
Die letzten beiden Bilder habe ich übungsweise mit einer schmaleren Farbpalette, ganz ohne schwarz gemalt. Der dunkelste Ton besteht aus Dunkeloxydbraun, Kobaltbraun und Bordeauxrot in einer geheimen Mischung. Dann wurde noch etwas Weiß und Indischgelb benutzt.

A small detour leads us to the Beaver Ponds. Uncommonly they won't leave the 3% Montana part of the park. 1% is Idaho, the remaining 97% make Wyoming famous.
In the last two pictures I exercised with a narrower range of colors. Without any black. The darkest tone consists of dark oxyd brown, cobalt and burgundy in a secret mixture. Moreover, only some white and indian yellow was used.

Yellowstone Lake

Gestriger Wohnanhänger stand am Mammoth Campground im Yellowstone Park. Etwa 70 km südwärts liegt das heutige Daily Painting Motiv, der Yellowstone Lake. Der See liegt über der größten Caldera Nordamerikas; sprich 8 km unter dem See liegt auch die größte Magmakammer eines schlummernden Supervulkans.

The trailer from yesterday's daily painting stood at the Mammoth Campground in the Yellowstone Park. About 45 miles southwards lies the Yellowstone Lake. The lake is located on the largest caldera of North America. 5 miles below the lake lies the largest magma chamber of a dormant super volcano.

Airstream

Die schöneren Wohnwagen bauen seit den 30er Jahren immer noch die Amerikaner. Die leichte Aluminiumhülle dieses Modells ist Kult. Der Designer H. Bowlus hat übrigens auch die Spirit of St. Louis entworfen, mit der Charles Lindbergh 1927 den Atlantik überquerte. Wahrscheinlich hüpft meine Version deshalb auch etwas im Gras rum.

The more beautiful caravans are still build by the Americans. Since the 1930ies, the lightweight aluminum body of this model is a cult. The designer H. Bowlus, incidentally designed the Spirit of St. Louis for Charles Lindbergh's crossing of the Atlantic in 1927. That's Probably the reason, why my trailer version jumps a bit into the air.

Stolzenau

Der heutige Wochenendtrip führt uns nach Stolzenau, wo Herr Stiller natürlich nicht die schönen Häuser mit den Storchennestern malt, sondern das "hässliche" Kieswerk an der Weser.


Our weekend trip takes us to Stolzenau. Of course Mr. Stiller doesn't paint the beautiful houses with storks' nests, but the "ugly" gravel pit on the river Weser.

Königsworther Brücke

Im ehemaligen Färber- und Gerberviertel überspannt eine gar prächtige Brücke die Leine. Diesmal wieder ein Suchbild: Neptun persönlich bewacht das laute Treiben darauf und darunter. (Okay, von der Brücke selber seht ihr nur eine der 4 Kandelabersäulen.)

Kingsworth Bridge
In former days this was the district of dyers and tanners. Here a magnificent bridge crosses the River Leine. Today again a puzzle picture: Neptune personally guards the noisy bustle on and below the bridge. Can you find him? (Okay, from the bridge itself you can see only one of four candelabra columns.)

Mein bisher kleinstes Daily Painting
zeigt einen großen amerikanischen Benzinfresser.
Dass er gerne frisst, zeigt schon sein, an ein Raubtiergebiss erinnernder, Kühlergrill. (Nur echt mit 23 Zähnen.)
Es ist wohl ein 1953er Buick Special Serie 40 Deluxe Tourback.

My smallest daily painting so far shows a large American gas-guzzler. He loves to eat. The proof is its radiator grille which reminds me of predatory ivories. I guess the painting shows a 1953 Buick Special Series 40 deluxe tour back.

Haus am Bach

Gestern meinte ein regelmäßiger Betrachter und Leser dieser Webseiten, dass es thematisch bei den Daily Paintings etwas wirr zugeht. Stimmt. Ich habe die letzten Motive auch nach einem Zufallsprinzip gewählt. Aus meinem Fundus, der immer aus etwa 50 Entwürfen und Ideen besteht, habe ich die letzen Wochen meist per Zufall eines herausgesucht und umgesetzt. Heute gibt es vorerst letzmalig noch mal eine Zufallsauswahl aus den Yorkshire Dales.

House by the stream
Yesterday a regular viewer and reader of these pages said, that there is a great variety of themes in my daily paintings in the moment. That's right. I got a stash of roundabout 50 ideas and designs from which I picked the last weeks by random selection. Today there is again a random selection from the Yorkshire Dales.

Wittenburg

Auf der Rückfahrt ein kurzer Daily-Painting-Stop in der Nähe der Wittenburger Klosterkirche. Nur 20 Jahre hatte sie das Vergnügen bemöncht zu werden. Danach klopfte Luther an. Allerdings in Wittenberg.

On the way back, I did a short daily painting stop in the vicinity of the Wittenburg monastery church. Only 20 years it had the pleasure to be monked. Then Luther knocked on the door. However, that was in Wittenberg.

Abendrot

In der Dämmerung in einem heimeligen verschlafenen Örtchen mitten in der Provence sitzen und ein kühles Gläschen Rosé schlürfen. Das wär doch mal schön. Aber bitte ohne diese schrecklichen bunten salzig süßen kandierten Knabber-Nuss-Wasabi-weiß-ich-nicht-Snacks.

Afterglow
Wouldn't that be nice? Sitting in a beautiful sleepy village in the heart of the Provence, sipping a refreshing glass of rosé. But without those horrible colored candied sweet 'n salty nut-nibbler-wasabi-wtf-snacks, please.

Bei so vielen Sorten fällt die Wahl schwer.

Bothfelder Kirche

Nach eher mäßigem gestrigen Erfolg beim Mittwochsgruppenskizzieren im Neuen Rathaus fuhr ich noch zur St. Nicolai Kirche in Bothfeld. Erste Kirchenbauten werden hier auf 1288 datiert. Also ein recht alter und zudem schöner Flecken.

Heute dürfte übrigens der 10.000 Besucher meiner Webseite gezählt werden! (Wovon die Hälfte aus »Spamumleitungen« stammt. Freut mich trotzdem sehr! Und morgen gibt's Info zur geplanten Ausstellung!

Bothfield Church
After a rather moderate success with my Wednesday Sketches in the Old City Hall yesterday, I went to St. Nicholas Church in Bothfeld. The first church here is dating back to 1288. So it is a very old and also a rather beautiful spot.

Today, I probably will say hello to the 10,000th visitor of my website! (Well, half of them refers to the "spam diversion" I'm nonetheless very glad about this! And tomorrow there's info about my upcoming exhibit!

International Harvester

Diesen roten restaurierten International Truck entdeckte ich in Kingston vor einem Irish Pub. Die Modellreihe KB3 (die mit den hier nicht sichtbaren Extraflügelchen neben dem Kühlergrill) wurde ab ca. 1947 gebaut.

I discovered this restored red truck in Kingston in front of an Irish pub. The KB 3model (the one with the widened lower grill wings) was built, beginning around 1947.

0316 Schlossallee

Die im Bild nur linksbäumig gezeigte Seite der Schlossallee befindet sich in den Herrenhäuser Gärten. Das im Zweiten Weltkrieg weggebombte Schloss wird übrigens gerade von der VW-Stiftung ganz »selbstlos« wieder davorgebaut.

Castle Alley
The daily painting shows the left side of the castle alley and is located in the Herrenhaeuser Gardens. In World War II the castle was bombed-out and razed to the ground, but the good old Volkswagenstiftung is »altruisticly« rebuilding it from scratch.

Feinkost Käfer

Vor fast 30 Jahren fuhr ich mit einem Freund in seinem beigen VW Käfer von Köln an die Costa Blanca. Natürlich sind wir die rund 2000 km lange Strecke ohne nennenswerte Pause, uns am Volant abwechselnd, durchgefahren. Hungrig, mit hängenden Augenlidern und unzähligen Begegnungen mit rosa Elefanten, die auf der Straße herumliefen, sind wir 24 Stunden später wohlbehalten angekommen.

A Bug's Life
It's almost 30 years ago, that I drove with a friend in his gray beige VW Beetle from Cologne to the Costa Blanca. Of course, we did the whole 1.250 mile distance without significant rests. Hungry, with drooping eyelids and countless encounters with pink elephants running around on the road, we happily arrived 24 hours later.

0313 Sommerziel

Gestern konnte man bei sommerlichen Temperaturen endlich wieder draußen malen. Diesmal auch seit langem wieder einmal in Öl. Meine Erfahrung zeigt, dass ich hierfür ungefähr doppelt so viel Zeit, wie für ein Acrylbild benötige.
Das Motiv ist exakt 4 Jahre alt und stammt von einer Wanderung durch das  Biosphärenresevat  Rhön.

Summer Target
To my pleasure the outside temperatures allowed to paint outside yesterday. My experience shows that I need about twice as much time as for an acrylic painting.
The motive is exactly 4 years old and comes from a hike through the biosphere reserve of the Rhoen.
