Maschseefest

Pünktlich zum Sommer findet in Hannover seit dem 1. August drei Wochen lang die feucht-fröhliche Dauerparty am Ufer des Sees statt. Anbei 2 Skizzen hiervon.

Chatelaillon

Vorerst aber sei es genug der San Francisco Bilder.
Es folgt ein kleiner Sprung -jedenfalls für den Maler- zur französischen Atlantikküste südlich von La Rochelle. Hier war das Abendessen, im Gegensatz zum gestrigen Daily Painting, ungestört. Mit traumhaften Blick auf den Strand und aufs Meer. Dazu ein leckeres Glas »white wine with the fish«, in dem sich die untergehende Sonne romantisch einfangen lässt.

Enough of the San Francisco for the moment.
It follows a small leap-at least for the painter- to the French Atlantic coast south of La Rochelle. This was, in contrast to yesterday's dinner-site undisturbed and romantic. With stunning views of the beach and the sea. Of course, a delicious glass of »white wine with the fish« captures romantically the setting of the sun.

Bob the builder

Irgendwann mitten beim Abendschmaus legte die Nachtbaustelle irgendwo in Downtown San Franciso los. Leider konnte man die Baustelle von unserem Restaurant aus vorher nicht sehen.
(»Frisco« sagt übrigens wirklich niemand, der dort lebt.)

Sometimes during the night meal a construction site laid off somewhere in downtown San Francisco. Too bad, we couldn't spot the construction before we chose the restaurant.
(Btw nobody says »Frisco« who lives there.)

Auf der manuell betriebenen Drehscheibe an der Endhaltestelle Powell Ecke Market werden die weltberühmten Cable Cars gewendet. Die spektakuläre Fahrt runter zur Fisherman's Wharf darf man nicht verpassen.

Alcatraz

Wer kennt sie nicht, die beschauliche Insel in der sonnigen Bucht von San Francisco. Die ausbruchsichere Luxusherberge für Schwerverbrecher bot von 1934 bis 1963 so mysteriösen Gestalten wie Al Capone, Machine Gun Kelly und David Copperfield Unterschlupf. Seit 1962 wird das Gefängnis nur noch für zahlreiche Filmaufnahmen (und uneinsichtige Touristen) genutzt.

Who is not familiar with this island of tranquility in the sunny bay of San Francisco. From 1934 to 1963, the escape-proof luxury hostel offered shelter to some mysterious fellows like Al Capone, Machine Gun Kelly and David Copperfield. Since 1962, the prison is exclusively used for numerous films (and uncooperative tourists).

Chinatown

San Francisco's Chinatown ist angeblich die größte außerhalb Asiens und die älteste Nordamerikas. Zudem natürlich heute eine beliebte Touristenattraktion. Viele Straßenzüge sind mit chinesischen Schriftzeichen, geheimnisvollen Symbolen und mit Billigshops überladen.

San Francisco's Chinatown claims to be the largest outside of Asia and the oldest in North America. In addition, of course, now it's a popular tourist attraction. Many streets are cluttered with Chinese characters and mysterious symbols and junk shops.

Blick aufs Ferry Building, wo früher das Hafengebäude von San Francisco war und jetzt ein schöner (aber teurer) Biomarkt untergebracht ist. Die von Palmen gesäumte Straße ist eine der Prachtboulevards der Stadt.

Overlooking the Ferry Building, where formerly has been San Francisco's port. Now a beautiful (but expensive) organic market is housed. The palm-lined street is a grand boulevard of the city.

Among Vultures
Uh, you don't really want an explanation or translation for this, won't you? Well, »Ciao, ciao, Shoshone.« does not really hit the mark. This quote comes from a famous German comedy (Manitou's Shoe) which satirizes old German western movies inspired by Karl May's stories from the nineteenth century.

Es ist für mich immer wieder erstaunlich, dass in Nordamerikas »hochtechnisierten« Städten immer noch hunderttausende von Strommasten stehen. Meine Theorie ist, dass es denen einfach zu warm zum Buddeln ist. In Südeuropa ist es ja ähnlich.

Pole Position
Again and again it strikes me that in North America the »high-tech« cities are still depending on hundreds of thousands of power poles. My theory is that the weather is just too warmish there for digging. Well it's similar in southern Europe...

Golden Gate Bridge

Was muss man hier groß erklären?
Ich liebe diese Brücke einfach. Wahrscheinlich habe ich mich daher verleiten lassen, viel zu detailreich zu malen. Eigentlich wollte ich das Bild etwas flächiger angehen. Nun sieht man sogar die Punkte auf dem Kleid der Frau.

Did I have to explain this painting?
I simply love this bridge. That's probably why it tempted me to draw too much details. Originally I liked a more spontaneous approach. Now you can even see the dots from the woman's dress.

Saint Peter and Paul

Irgendwie scheint es in San Francisco immer bergauf oder bergab zu gehen, was eine Sightseeingtour bei 30°C schon eher anstrengend macht. Vom berüchtigten Nebel war an diesem Tag allerdings nichts zu sehen.

Somehow it always goes uphill or downhill in San Francisco. This makes a sightseeing tour at 86° Fahrenheit a bit arduous. Luckily no track of the infamous San Francisco Bay fog was seen that day.
