Irgendwann in der Mitte des vorigen Jahrtausends erfand Herr Bigbsy diesen Schwengel an der Gitarre, mit dem man die Tonhöhe um 1-2 Halbtöne variieren kann. Ich hatte das früher auch immer Schwengelgitarre genannt.

Puh! Nun gefällt es mir viel besser! 

Yesterday morning, the very first thing I saw on my iPad, was the painting I'd done the day before. And I really ... well I did not liked it too much! Therefore I changed some details, improved the colors and shadow parts etc. 
Whew! Now I like much better!

Nach dem Detail von gestern hatte ich mal wieder Lust, eine komplette Landschaftsszene zu malen. Das dazugehörige Foto entstand im Yellowstone Park, auf dem Weg zu den Fairy Falls. Zum Glück konnte ich da noch im Automatikmodus Fotos machen, obwohl die Kamera vorher ins Wasser gefallen war. 

Der »echte« Wasserfall indes war dann eher unspektakulär...

Waterfall

After the detail painting from yesterday I liked to paint a complete landscape scene. The corresponding photo was taken in the Yellowstone Park, on the way to the Fairy Falls. Luckily I was still able to take pictures (only in automatic mode), 'cause the camera was previously fallen into the water. 

However, the »real« waterfall was then rather less spectacular...

Wohl keiner zum Sonnen, sondern eher ein Abstellplatz für Putzmittel, Gasflaschen und allerlei Krimskrams. Das gelbe Handtuch reizte mich letzlich.

The Balcony 
Probably not equipped for sunbathing, but rather a storage space for cleaning supplies, gas bottles and odds and ends. Finally the yellow towel appealed to me.

Nahe der Stelle, wo ich Bild #1074 gemalt habe befindet sich auch dieses kleine Weizenfeld mit Natursteinmauer. Diesmal habe ich das Bild aber im Schatten des eigenen Baumes im heimischen Garten nach einem Foto gemalt.

Under the Tree 
Near the point where I have painted image # 1074 is also this small wheat field with a stone wall. This time I painted the picture in the shadow of my own tree in my rear garden from a photo.

Ein weiterer Rückblick auf einen stark abfallenden Weg, den wir in der Nachmittagshitze hochgeschnauft sind. Oben angekommen gab es dann gekühlten frisch gepressten Orangensaft.

Another review to a steeply sloping path we kept panting up in the afternoon heat. At the top a cooled freshly squeezed orange juice was awaiting us.

1087 Ein Tag am Maschsee

In Hannover ist es wieder Zeit fürs Maschseefest (noch bis zum 17. August). Wir haben uns am ruhigeren Seeende zum Aquarellmalen versammelt. Ich habe meine Ausrüstung vergrößert und habe nun auch einen Schwamm und einen Pump-Wassersprüher am Start. Zudem habe ich erstmal im Freien auf einem großen Format gearbeitet. 

Fühlte mich das erste Mal wie ein richtiger Plein Air Aquarellist ;) 

Die Zeit verging wie im Fluge und der böige Wind zerrte an der Staffelei (und ein Vogel wusste nicht wohin mit seinem Dreck) aber alles verlief unfallfrei für mich, die Staffelei und den Vogel.

A Day on the Maschsee 

In Hanover it's time for Maschseefest (until Aug. 17th). We painted on the calm side of the artificial lake. I actually have increased my equipment and now I also use a sponge and a pump water spray. In addition, I worked for the first time on such a large format in plein air. I felt like being a real plein air watercolor artist. Time flew by and the gusty wind tugged at the easel (and a bird did not know what to do with his crap) but everything went without an accident for me, the easel and the bird.

okay, ist ja nur mal ein Versuch, mit wenig Farben und Formen was hinzubekommen.

Zudem eine gute Übung: 

Versuche, ein Bild mit maximal 100 prägnanten Pinselstrichen zu malen. Also kein Tupfen und wischeln, sondern fette markante und wohlüberlegte Kompositionen.

Abstract Routes

okay it's just a nice attempt to paint with little color and bold shapes. 

In addition, it's a pretty good exercise: 

Try to paint a picture with a maximum of 100 concise brushstrokes. 

So no speckling and scurrying but bold strokes and thoughtful compositions.

Nicht nur im Urlaub, einfach überall, wo ich eine Kamera dabei habe, mache ich gerne Fotos von alten Schlössern und Türen. Am besten sind die Türen ramponiert und die Schlösser verrostet, so wie hier an einer norwegischen Berghütte.

Not only on vacation, just about anywhere where I have my camera with me, I like to take photos of old locks and doors. The best doors are battered and the best locks are rusty. Like this one on a Norwegian mountain lodge.

Ein ganz idyllisches Plätzchen von Hannover, ein altes Rittergut inmitten der Stadt, haben wir gestern mit der Sketchingtruppe besucht (heimgesucht?). 

Ein kleines Schmuckstück, nah an den Teichen mit netten Bewohnern.

Noble Court of Rickingen 

A very idyllic spot of Hanover is this old manor in the vicinity of the city.

We visited and painted it yesterday with our Sketching group.

A little gem, close to some ponds and populated with nice residents.

Gestern abend gab es dann doch ein wenig regen und nach all dem »Fenster auf! Fenster auf!« beim Nachhausekommen, gab es nun ein »Fenster zu!«, bevor es reinregnet. 

Dieses spezielle Fenster allerdings, ist auf Mallorca und wegen der Hitze geschlossen...

Shut the Window! 

Yesterday night there was just a little rainfall, and after all the »Open the windows!« when coming home, there was now a »close that window!« before the rain ours in.

This special window however, is mallorcan and closed because of the heat ...

Erstes »Erinnerungsbild« von Mallorca. Vor Ort hatte ich nicht den Drive zum Malen und habe die Aquarelle alle versaut. Da habe ich mich dann lieber auf die Klippen gesetzt und dem Treiben am und im Meer zugeschaut.

First »memorial image« of Majorca. On location, I did not have the drive to paint and have the watercolors all messed up. Since then I have rather put me on the cliffs and watched the goings-on and the sea.

Samstag abend gab es noch den schönen Ausklang beim Barbecue auf der Terrasse der Finca. Sonntag abend wurde dann schon auf der eigenen Terrasse in Hannover bei ähnlich sommerlichen Temperaturen gegrillt.

Afterglow 
Saturday evening we had a beautiful BBQ-final on the terrace of the finca. Yesterday evening I barbecued on my own terrace in Hanover within similar summer temperatures.

Sie könnten sicher einiges über die Bewohner und Herren (und Damen) der Finca erzählen.
Sicher haben sie Sie so manchen guten Schluck Wein enthalten und nun stehen sie als Dekoration (oder als mahnende Wächter?) auf der Fincaterrasse.
Heute geht es zurück mit dem Flieger nach Deutschland.

If these bottles could talk, the would tell us about the masters and mistresses of the finca.
And they surely contained a lot of good wine from Majorca.
Today we are leaving the island and fly back to Germany.

Flirrende Sonne, 32° C im Schatten ein staubiger, trockener Feldweg und gefühlte 20 Kilo Malgepäck an den Schultern. Da legt man sich doch lieber an den Pool. Eigentlich. Andere machen das wohl...

Shadow under the Tree

Shimmering sun, 90° Fahrenheit in the shade of a dusty, dry and dirt road and the painting stuff feels like 40 pounds of weight onto my shoulders. Others will then find themselves rather being on the swimming pool. Actually, painters are not like the others.

1073 Fields of Gold

Nur ein paar Minuten entfernt gibt es schon ausgedehnte Weizenfelder, unterbrochen von kleinen Wäldchen aus Steineiche, Johannesbrotbäumen und den allgegenwärtigen Olivenbäumen. Hier dösen im Schatten die Schafe mit den Lämmern. Und zeitweilig steht ein Maler im Schatten einer großen Pinie und malt an seiner Staffelei vor sich hin.

Just a few minutes away there are extensive wheat fields, punctuated by small grove of holm oak, carob trees and the ubiquitous olive trees. In the shade some sheep and their lambs are dozing. 
And at times there is a painter in the shadow of a large pine tree and paints his daily painting.
