Diesmal tippe ich auf einen Buick Electra 1959.

Im Gegensatz zu gestern, schaut dieses Modell eher kritisch mit einer hochgezogenen »Augenbraue« à la Mr. Spock.

This time I'm going for a '59 Buick Electra.

This model looks more critical than yesterday's. 

With a raised »eyebrow« à la Mr. Spock.

Durch die Rückleuchten schließe ich auf ein Chevrolet Biscayne Modell aus dem Jahr 1959. Das flirtet einen irgendwie an, oder?

Cause of its taillights, I am going for a Chevy Biscayne from '59.

Gestern war ich eine ganze Zeit im 4. Stock eines Hauses dieser Straße unterwegs. Ich hatte etwas Wartezeit zu verplempern und somit zeichnete ich den Blick vom Balkon (unten). Und einen weiteren auf die Calenberger Esplanade aus dem Fenster bei Abend (oben).

Irgendwie war mir mal wieder danach, einen Oldtimer zu malen. 

Zum Glück habe ich in meinem Fotoarchiv davon genug zur Auswahl. Dieses ist ein alter Chevy, den ich in Schweden fotografiert habe, wo es recht viele Liebhaber dieser alten Vehikel gibt.

Once in a given time, I feel like painting a classic car.

Luckily I have some of these in my large photo archive to choose from. This is an old Chevy I shot in Sweden. It seemshere are many lovers of these old vehicles.

Im Aktkurs, den ich letzten Donnerstag geleitet habe, war das Thema Licht und Schatten. Das Modell wurde von einem starken Strahler angestrahlt, sodass Interessante Lichteffekte entstehen konnten.

In my life painting class I guided on last Thursday it was all about light and shadow. The model was illuminated by a strong spotlight, so interesting light effects could arise.

Habe mich dann doch noch durchgerungen, das Nachtkatzenbild weiter zu malen.

Die Komposition ist für meine Verhältnisse ein wenig zu wild geraten. 

Allerdings gefallen mir ein paar Details ganz gut.

The composition has come a little too wild for me.

However, I like a few details quite well.

Le Sketch

Ein besonderer Tribut an die Kunst war es gestern, als ich erneut vorm Rathaus malte. Der Baustellenlärm, die Kälte und eine Horde von Besuchern... Aber unsere Gruppe wollte die Bank und den Löwen von letzter Woche noch einmal malen: Diesmal bei Nacht. Was in der schummrigen Beleuchtung rauskam seht ihr heute. 

Morgen wird das Ganze dann noch aufgepeppt. (Oder weggeworfen.)

At Night all Cats are Gray (Work in Progress)

It was a special tribute to art: Yesterday I was again painting in front of City Hall. The construction noise, the cold temperatures and a gaggle of visitors... But our group wanted to paint the bank and the lion from last week one more time. But this time: at night! What came out of the dim light you can see today. 

I'll jazz up the whole thing tomorrow. (Or throw it away.)

Nach einem ausgiebigen Shoppingnachmittag hat man genug Eis und Waffeln gegessen, genug Gummibärchen verspeist und alle Dinosaurier, Elefanten und Feuerwehrautos Probe gefahren bzw. geritten. 

Jedenfalls, wenn man ein Kind ist und mit Mama unterwegs war.

Shopping fatigue

After a extensive shopping afternoon you'll have eaten enough ice cream, waffles and yelly babies. You've ridden all dinosaurs and elephants and even driven a fire truck. 

At least, if you are a kid gone out shopping with mum.

Wenn das Wetter schön ist und die Stimmung gut, was im Südfrankreichurlaub schon mal vorkommen kann, wird auch manches »nützliche Zeugs« eingekauft. Dieses Mal hatten wir uns aber fest vorgenommen, keinen Tüddelskram zu kaufen. Die schönsten Erinnerungen sind sowieso im Kopf. Und in meinen Bildern.

Buying Mood

If the weather is nice and you're in a good mood – which happens to be quite often in the Southern France–  you tend to buy »useful things«. This time we determined ourselves not to buy baubles (is this the right word?). Anyway, the best memories you'll keep in your mind. And I show them in my paintings.

Dieses Hotel in Uzès war eigentlich sehr schön und hatte ein sehr gutes Frühstücksbuffet. Auch die Lage war ausgesprochen ruhig und dennoch fußläufig und zentral nahe des bezaubernden Marktes, den wir dort besuchen wollten. Über die Aussicht aus dem Fenster mag man sich allerdings streiten. Wobei man mir natürlich ein ideales Daily Painting Motiv und ein kostenloses Tauben-Konzert geboten hat.

Backyard Hotel View

This hotel in Uzès was actually had been very nice and had a very good breakfast buffet. The room was very quiet and yet within walking distance centrally located near the charming market, we wanted to visit there. One might argue about the view from the window. However, it offered me of course an ideal daily painting motif and a free dove concert.

Dieses Bild lag gerade auf meiner Route... will sagen, es war das erste Motiv, das mich bei der Suche nach dem heutigen Motiv angesprungen hat. Ist übrigens eine farbenfrohe Straße in Carpentras.

This image was just on my route ... which means, it was the first motif that has jumped into my eyes in search for today's subject. This colorful street is in Carpentras.

Diese kleinen Übungen kennen viele ja bereits. Meine Vorgabe hierfür ist: Noch kleineres Format (15 x 15 cm) und eine klare Zeitvorgabe: Es darf nicht länger als eine normale CD-Spielzeit dauern. Heute gab ich mir noch einen kurzen Bonus-Track ;)

I call these short exercises »petitesses« (from the French word for small). My default for this is to paint even smaller (6 x 6 inches) and a a fixed timing: It shall not last longer than the playtime of a normal CD. Today I gayve me a bonus track ;)

Diesen schönen Salon de thé haben wir in Le Puy-en-Velay gefunden. leider hatte er geschlossen und wahrscheinlich zum Schutz vor der Sonne ein Bettlaken vorm Fenster gespannt. Das Innenleben des Cafés habe ich also erfunden. Seht ihr den Wuschelhaarigen Kellner, der uns anstarrt? Ist das Herr Cie?

This beautiful salon de thé we have found in Le Puy-en-Velay. Unfortunately, it was closed and there was a bedsheet stretched in front of the window to protect something inside from the sun or so. So I imagined myself how it could look like inside. Do you see the curly-haired waiter staring at us? Is that Mr. Cie?

Gestern traf sich unser Mittwochs-Sketchy-Trupp vorm Rathaus. 

Dort wird momentan fleißig (und lautstark) der Trammplatz umgebaut. 

Die Konzentration während der Malerei verschließt einem zum Glück auch die Ohren.

Besonders gelungen finde ich heute die Autos.

Nächste Woche wollen wir uns nochmal am Rathaus treffen und dort weiterarbeiten.

Am Bild, nicht am Bau...

Lion and Bank

Our Wednesday's Sketchy Squad met in front of our City Hall.

There it is currently busy (and loud) rebuilding the forecourt.

The concentration during the painting process luckily closed my ears.

I really like how the cars worked out. 

Next week we want to met again at the Town Hall and continue working there.

On the painting, not on the road work.

Wie jeder Franzose weiß, heißt das soviel wie »Bäckerei«. Seit den letzten zehn Jahren oder so gibt es auch in Frankreich eine größere Auswahl an Brotsorten und Mischungen. Auch »Bio« ist auf dem Vormarsch. Am besten verkauft sich aber weiterhin das »Tradionelle«.

Like every Frenchman knows this means as much as »bakery«. In the meantime, since the last ten years or so, there exists a larger selection of breads and doughs. »Organic« is on the rise too.
But the bestseller still is the traditional baguette.

Gestern war die Wolkenstruktur »eigentlich« eher langweilig. 

In einer Richtung jedoch spielten viele verschiedene Farben und Stimmungen am Himmel. So nahm ich mir dieses Stück vom Himmel.

Manchmal ist das Unspektakuläre gerade gut genug für ein Daily Painting.

Yesterday, the evening sky cloud structure was actually quite boring. In one direction, however, I recognized a play of many different colors and moods in the sky. 

So I took me this piece of heaven. 

Sometimes the unspectacular is good enough for a daily painting.

Gestern war wieder ein schöner Herbsttag in Hannover.

Das Foto wird dem Original nicht gerecht, aber irgendwie weigert sich die Kamera die richtigen Grüntöne aufzunehmen. Deshalb werden auch alle Bilder von mir nochmal in Photoshop übergebügelt, um sie möglichst nah ans Original zu bekommen.

Yesterday was another beautiful autumn day in Hannover. 

This picture is not fair to the original colors, but somehow the camera refuses to take the right greens. That's why all of my pictures are ironed over again in Photoshop, to get them as close as possib
le to the original.

Durch das unverhofft sonnige Herbstwetter gestern konnte ich gar nicht anders, als rauszugehen und draußen zu malen.

So, due to the unexpectedly sunny autumn weather yesterday I could not help and was out and about painting outdoors.
