Toronto war Thema meines ersten »Daily Paintings« und bildet nun auch das Ende. 100 Tage später seht ihr nun das letzte Werk von 100 versprochenen Bildern.
Aber keine Sorge, es geht auch morgen weiter.
Vielleicht nicht mehr wirklich jeden Tag. Und  wahrscheinlich werden nun auch vermehrt »nur« Skizzen, Aquarelle oder grafische Werke eingestellt. Aber viele fanden gerade diese Arbeiten besonders gelungen.
Ich danke euch allen für eure Kritik, Kauflust, Begeisterung und eure vielen ermutigenden freundlichen Kommentare.
Man lernt nie aus.

Toronto was subject of my first »Daily Painting« and is also theme in the last one. 100 days later you see the last of my 100 promised paintings.
But don't worry. There will be a »tomorrow«.
Of course I will carry on painting. Maybe not really every day. Likely I will post more sketches, watercolors and graphic works. But some of the viewers enjoyed just this kind of work.
I thank you all for your criticism, buying power, enthusiasm and your encouraging and kind comments.
I never stop learning.

Schlossgespenst

Inzwischen hat der herzige Trend, gemeinsam ein mit den Initialen oder Namen der Beteiligten graviertes, hässliches, industriell gefertigtes Schloss an ein vormals noch wunderschönes städtisches Geländer an der Brücke über den Teich hinterm Neuen Rathaus zu hängen, um die ewige Treue zum gegenwärtigen Partner auszudrücken, leider auch bei vielen ach so verliebten Pärchen in Hannover Anhänger gefunden.
Das ist ja wohl das vorletzte. Also »Daily Painting« Nr. 99 von 100.

Under Lock and KeyMeanwhile, the simple-hearted trend to chain an ugly, industrially manufactured lock, engraved with the initials or names of the provided parties, on a formerly very beautiful railing of a bridge above the pond behind Hanover's new city hall, in order to express eternal love to the part-time partner, unfortunately, found support in many oh-so-loving couples in Hanover too.
This is the penultimate painting #99/100.

Als Einleitung der Woche folgt heute der zweite Satz meiner Durchführung des Marburger Aktmalwochenendes als klassische Symphonie in 3 Akten. Diesmal mit Betonung einer ganz auf die grafische Linie reduzierten Note.

Beim gestrigen Malkurs in Marburg entstanden wieder viele neue Akte. Die effektive Heizung lässt die Modelle kalt und die Zeichner schwitzen.

Ein kleiner > Feinkostladen in der Hannoveraner Nordstadt rühmt sich inoffiziell, Niedersachsens kleinste Kochschule zu sein. Hier finden sich neben zahlreichen schöne Küchenutensilien und Gegenständen auch leckere (!) selbstgemachte Chutneys und Marmeladen sowie eine Frischetheke mit Wildspezialitäten und vieles andere mehr.

A small > deli in the northern city of Hanover boasts, to be unofficially the smallest cookery school in Lower Saxony. Along with numerous beautiful kitchen utensils and objects there can be found tasty (!) homemade chutneys and jams, and a deli counter with venison specialities and much more.

Indian Summer

In Japan heißt unser Altweibersommer »koharu 小春«, was übersetzt »Kleiner Frühling« bedeutet. In Finnland ist es die »Zeit der Braunfärbung« (Ruska-Aika). In Schweden ist's der »Brittsommar«. In einigen Mittelmeerländern nennt man es den »St.-Martins-Sommer«.
Aber ganz egal, wie ihr es nennt, die Blätter fallen trotzdem.
Hintergrundmusik: »Meet me in the indian summer« von Van Morrison.

In Japan, the name of our German »Altweibersommer« (which derives from web weaving spiders) is »Koharu 小春,« which translates as »Little Spring«. In Finland it is the »time of browning« (Ruska Aika). In Sweden's it's »Brittsommar«.
In some Mediterranean countries, it's called »St. Martin's Summer«.
But no matter how you call it, the leaves keep falling anyway.

Thea's Garden

Ein  botanisches Kleinod inmitten der Felder. Hoffentlich keine vergangene Idylle. Denn eben sehe ich auf Wikipedia, dass im benachbarten Goderich am 21. August (also kurz nach unserem Besuch in Kanada) der schwerste Tornado seit Jahren dort gewütet hat.

A botanical gem among the fields. Hopefully not an idyllic past. Because I just saw on Wikipedia that shortly after our visit in nearby Goderich on August 21st, the heaviest  tornado since years had been raging.

Bausünden

Um von der schnieken Innenstadt zum relaxten Ontario-Seeufer (und zu den vorgelagerten Inseln) zu gelangen, muss man die Unterquerung des Gardiner Expressways an der Yonge Street nehmen. Bauwerke ähnlicher Machart waren in den 60er und 70er Jahren schwer in Mode.
Fand man so etwas nicht schon damals hässlich?
Unsere Raschplatzhochstraße in Hannover verbreitet ein ähnlich anmutiges urbanes Flair.

Eyesores
To get from snazzy downtown to the relaxed Ontario shore (and to the offshore islands), you have to take the crossing under the Gardiner Expressway on Yonge Street. Buildings of similar design were in fashion in the 60s and 70s. Did they really found it groovy back then? Our Raschplatz High Street in Hanover spreads a similar charming urban flair.

Nachdem gestern die kalten Töne angesagt waren, folgt heute die warme Hauptspeise. Eigentlich ist es ja die St. Lawrence Markthalle in Toronto bei Nacht. Aber sieht es nicht eher aus, wie das Portal eines Opernhauses?

Auf diesem Bild ist keiner. Aber ihr dürft trotzdem gerne einen finden. Genial, dass man als Künstler so einfach eine eigentlich warme Sommernachtszene kurzerhand in monochrome Kälte tauchen kann. Denn wahrscheinlich ist es in Toronto inzwischen saukalt.

Karneval

Am 11.11.11 um 11.11 Uhr geht das närrische Treiben wieder richtig los. Doch wer mich kennt, weiß, dass ich eher die ruhigeren Töne bevorzuge. Und das, obwohl ich in Köln geboren wurde. Etwas verklärt blicke ich heute auf den Venezianischen Karneval, der mit Masken und Scharaden gar lustig Schabernack treibt.

Carnival
Today, the 11.11.11 at exactly eleven minutes past eleven, the carnival sessions starts. Anyone who knows me a bit, knows also, that I rather prefer the quieter tones. Even though I was born in the capital city of carnival, in Cologne. So my glorified look goes to the Venetian type of carnival, with its masks and charades.

Some days show you only too clearly how difficult it is, to get everything under one roof (in German it's called »under one hat«). Whether it is organizational, interpersonal or procedural. Or, as Freud maybe would have put it:
»Sometimes a hat is just a hat.«

Das charmante Kaffee in der Karmarschstraße ist nach dem Shopping oft unser erster Boxenstopp. Immer wieder lecker, hier nach der anstrengenden Rumlauferei einen »echten Hannoveraner Kaffee« aus frisch gerösteten Kaffeebohnen zu trinken.

Often this charming coffee house in the Karmarschstraße is our first pit stop after shopping. It's always delicious to drink here a "true Hanoverian coffee" made ​​from freshly roasted beans after an exhausting shopping marathon.

Am Samstag war aus gegebenem Anlass ein Einkauf in der City angesagt. Die Tage werden kürzer, die Temperaturen geringer und die Füße kälter. Der Jahreszeit entsprechend, wurde noch leckerer Tee und Winterlektüre erstanden.
Diese Woche bekommt auch das Auto endlich seine neuen Wintersöckchen übergestreift.

Announced on Saturday was shopping in the city. The days are getting shorter, the temperatures are decreasing and our feet are getting colder each day. According to the season, I bought some delicious tea and winter reading. And this week, the car will finally be pulled on its new winter socks.

Gehry Tower

Der Brückenschlag von Toronto zu Hannover: Auch Hannover brüstet sich seit 2001 mit einem eigenen von Frank O. Gehry gestalteten Bauwerk. Gehry wurde 1929 in Toronto geboren. Durch Verdrehung des Baukörpers um seine Mittelachse erhält das Gebäude seinen Charme. Auch charmant ist seine Lage direkt am Rotlichtviertel Hannovers. Und damit sind nicht die vielen Ampeln gemeint.

The bridge from Toronto to Hanover: Frank O. Gehry was born 1929 in Toronto. Since 2001, Hanover boasts itsself with an own building by the famous architect. The rotation about its center axis gives the building its charm. Also charming is its location directly in the neighbourhood of Hanover's red light district. And I don't mean the numerous traffic lights.

Blick aus dem Fenster in der 17. Etage des Hotels und Appartementhauses. Dort durften wir Anfang Juli in der Wohnung eines Freundes nächtigen und unsere letzten Coups in Downtown Toronto planen: Das ehemalige Bankgebäude hat im Keller einen klassischen fantastischen
spielfilmwürdigen Tresorraum mit einer 120 cm dicken runden Stahltür, die 40 Tonnen wiegt, sich aber angeblich mit nur einem Finger bewegen lässt.

View from the 16th floor of the hotel and apartment house. Fortunately, we could spend some nights in early July at our friend's apartment and plan our last coup in Downtown Toronto: The former bank building has a magnificent classical vault in the basement with a 4 foot thick round steel door, which weighs 40 tons. Yet it is said, it can be moved with a single finger.

Gestern beim Aktzeichenkurs. Manche Modelle lassen sich einfach sehr gut zeichnen und haben eine natürliche Ausstrahlung und Begabung. Unglaublich, aber für die junge Frau war es das erste Modellstehen. 

Yesterday at the nude painting class. Some models are easy to sketch and have a natural charisma and talent. Unbelievable, but it was the first time this model posed.

Optische Täuschung

Seit gestern läuft in dem kleinen Optikerladen »Brille19« eine kleine Schaufenster-Ausstellung einiger Skizzen unserer Mittwochs-Zeichengruppe. Die Motive stammen alle aus der Nordstadt Hannovers. Mein erstes »eigenes Bild im Bild«.
Die Ausstellung dauert ca. 3-4 Wochen.

Optical Illusion
Running since yesterday: In the opticians shop »Brille19« our Wednesday-Urban-Sketching-Group has a small showcase exhibition. The subjects are all from the northern city of Hanover. My first »own picture in picture«.
The exhibition lasts about 3-4 weeks.

Saint Martin de Ré

Am Wochenende war ich beim Intensiv-Malkurs in Marburg. Hier entstand das heutige »Daily Painting«. Es zeigt (m)eine Sicht hinab auf den Place de la République vom Kirchturm in Saint Martin de Ré. Vielleicht ist es deshalb etwas düsterer geworden, weil ich mich in der höheren Luft auf dem bröckeligen Turm nicht so wohl fühlte.

Last weekend I participated an intensive painting class in Marburg. Here I created my today's "Daily Painting". It shows my (dark) view of the Place de la République from the church tower of Saint Martin de Ré. Perhaps it has become more gloomy, because I'm a bit terrified of heights.

Ein kleines Schulstillleben aus einem kanadischem Museum in Fenelon Falls. An dieser Stelle eine Entschuldigung für meine englischen Übersetzungen. Ich hätte doch besser im Unterricht aufpassen sollen, anstatt »Alice Cooper« in die Tische zu ritzen.

What is the German imagination of an typical Frenchman? Of course, as a Gauloises smoking, a striped sweater wearing and pastis drinking boule player with a Basque beret.

Inseltraum

Ein kleines Ferienhäuschen in Südfrankreich. In einem total authentischen und ursprünglichen Dorf. Natürlich ohne Touristen. Mit einem kleinen Atelier im Gartenpavillon.
Ich sitze jeden Tag im Sonnenschein auf meiner Bank am wohltemperierten Schwimmteich in dem die Schwäne majestätisch ihre Bahnen ziehen. Der Golden Retriever jagd tapsig nach einem farbenfrohen Schmetterling. Und die schöne Bäckerin bringt die noch warmen selbstgebackenen Croissants zum mittäglichen Frühstück.

Island Dream
A small holiday cottage in southern France. In a totally authentic and original village. Of course, no tourists. With a small studio in the garden pavilion. I am sitting every day in the sunshine on my little bench on the well-tempered swimming pond where the swans majestically move their paths. The Golden Retriever is hunting clumsily hunting after a colorful butterfly. And the beautiful baker's girl brings the warm home-baked croissants.

Freiburger Münster

Ein paar Details von der einzigen gotischen Kirche, die innerhalb dieser Epoche begonnen und auch fertiggestellt wurde (1200-1513).
»Unsere liebe Frau« misst 116 Meter.
Der Turmhelm wird derzeit aufwändig restauriert.

A few details of the only Gothic church which was completed within its period (1200-1513). "Our lovely Lady" measures 116 meters. The spire is being carefully restored.
