Am Wochenende war ein liebe Aquarellfrendin zu Besuch und wir haben natürlich zusammen gemalt. Ich habe mir ein relativ abstraktes Motiv herausgesucht. Das errät bestimmt wieder niemand, was das ist? (Auflösung morgen – ich freue mich aber eure Vermutungen hierzu.)

Also das Gen zum Schuhekaufen hat was mit den Chromosomen zu tun.

Chromosom heißt wörtlich übersetzt "chrōma" für Farbe und "sōma" für Körper.

Also Farbkörper, womit wir wieder bei der Malerei wären.

So this is the gene to buy shoes in some kind of women. 

That has something to do with the chromosomes.

Chromosome literally translates as "chrōma" for color and "sōma" for body.

So it is the color body, which brings us back to the subject of painting.

Nach unserem selbst organisierten neunstündigen (!) Kurs Aquarellbegeisterter im Atelier von Audrey, finde ich meine einfachsten Übungsskizzen fast am schönsten.

Wir haben gegenseitig von den Tipps und Erfahrungen profitiert und es hat zudem einen Riesenspaß gemacht. So soll es doch sein! Danke auch an Kati, die dies alles meisterlich with a little help from a friend ;) durchstrukturiert hat.

People in Watercolor

After our nine-hour (!) workshops for and with watercolor enthusiast in Audrey's studio, I like my simplest exercise sketches the most.

We have mutually benefited from the given advice and experiences.

And it was a lot of fun too. This is, how it should be!

1276 The Blues Band

Gestern abend war ich auf dem Konzert der fabulösen Blues Band. Zum ersten Mal sah ich sie live im WDR Rockpalast 1980. Und mit genau diesem Programm tourt sie nun 35 Jahre später wieder herum. Es war ein eindrucksvolles schönes Konzert. 

Heute ist der Kurs "Menschen im Aquarell" der DAGGWS Regionalgruppe West. 

Habe die ganze Woche ja schon Menschen geübt...

Last night I was at the concert of the fabulous Blues Band. For the first time I saw them live at Rockpalast in 1980 (a TV Event). And 35 years after this is precisely the program of their actual tours around now. It was an impressive and awsome concert. 

Today is the workshop "People in Watercolor" by the DAGGWS Regional Group West. 

That's why I have practiced figurative painting the whole week long...

What I already hinted yesterday, today is clarifies again today: 
The Lisbonians love their roof antennas. 
Do they still suffer from analog signals? 
In the end these wire meshes keep the houses from breaking together?

Lissabon von etwas weiter oben zu malen ist gar nicht schwer, da es sieben Hügel gibt, auf denen schöne Miradouros, also Aussichtsterrassen sind. Dort ist dann auch oft etwas länger die Sonne zu genießen.

Sloping Roofs

It's easy to to paint Lisbon from somewhat above, since there are seven hills on which you can find beautiful Miradouros (viewing terraces). Here the sun was lasting a bit longer on our skins.

Wenn man eine Woche lang nur Aquarelle und Skizzen gemacht hat, freut man sich umso mehr auf die Acrylfarben. Dies ist mein Blick von der Terrasse unseres Hotels auf die Hausdächer des Lissaboner Chiado-Viertels.

After one week of watercolors and sketches, the more I looked forward to do an acrylic painting. This is my view from the terrace of our hotel at the rooftops of Lisbon's Chiado district.

Ein extravagantes altes Stadthaus im orientalen Stil wurde zum kleinen Kunsthandwerkerhaus »Embaixada« umgebaut. 

An old townhouse in an extravagant oriental style was converted into a small crafts house »Embaixada".

Da muss man erst mal fünfzig Jahre alt werden, um das erste Mal in ein sogenanntes »Etablissement« zu geraten. Dieses ist inzwischen nur noch eine Cocktail-Bar. Ich habe brav dort nur einen Kaffee getrunken – es war noch nicht meine Happy Hour.

Love House
I had to turn fifty before I dared to go into a house of pleasure. Uhm, but this one now is only a cocktail bar. I have just been drinking there a cup of coffee – it was not yet my happy hour.

1262 Confeiteria Nacional

Eines der ältesten Kaffeehäuser ist die Confeitaria Nacional. Da es hier soviel zu sehen und zu erkunden gibt, skizziere ich wirklich das meiste während der Pausen beim Kaffee oder Wein. Hier gibt es Garderobenständer, die wie Frauen ausschauen ;)

One of the oldest coffee houses is the Confeitaria Nacional. Since there is so much to see and to explore, I am really sketching the most during the breaks over coffee or wine. The cloth rack does look like a woman ;)

1261 Tram Tours

Die alten Straßenbahnen hier sind in Lissabon der Hit. Seit über 100 Jahren fahren die Electricos hier schon herum. Seitdem scheint es keine nennenswerten Änderungen an Technik und Ausstattung gegeben zu haben. Am besten sind die Strecken full Speed die engen Straßen der Altstadt herab. Habe nicht ganz verstanden, warum die Fahrer hier Bremser genannt werden.

The old trams here are the greatest adventures here in Lisbon. For over 100 years, the Electricos are moving around the old town quarters. Since then, it seems there have been no significant changes in technology and equipment. The best routes are those in the narrow streets heading downhill in full speed. Don't know, why the conductors here are called brakemen.

1260 Santa Luzia

Weniger wäre vielleicht bei diesem Motiv mehr gewesen? Aber das Kirchlein aus dem Malteser Orden lag so schön und verspielt auf dem Platz, dass man nicht aufhören konnte sie mit Farbe zu bewerfen. Also bildlich gesprochen.  

Less would perhaps have been more in this design? But the church of the Order of Malta lies so beautifully and playfully on that spot, I just could not stop to throw color on it. Figuratively spoken.

1259 Miradouro de Graça

Man könnte meinen, wir würden nur im Café sitzen und Galaos (also Milchkaffee) trinken. Stimmt ja auch fast. Zwischendurch skizziere ich noch die Gegend und genieße das Flair dieser Stadt.

You'd think we would just sit in the café and drink Galaos (coffee with much milk). Indeed, that's it almost. In between, I am sketching around and enjoy the atmosphere of this city.

Zwei Eindrücke des Abends in der Stadt. Der Sonnenuntergang an der Praça do Comércio am Tejo und am Miradouro de Santa Catarina. Überall sieht man viele junge und alte Menschen gemeinsam das milde Wetter genießen. Ich habe sogar schon Sonnenbrand auf der Nase.

Two impressions of the evening in the city. The sunset at the Praça do Comércio  on the Tagus and at the Miradouro de Santa Catarina. Everywhere old and young people come along and enjoy the beautiful weather. I already got a sunburn on my nose.

Zum Geburtstagsurlaub sind wir in Lissabon gelandet. Ich entfliehe dem deutschen Wetter und genieße hier ein paar Tage die schon wärmenden Sonnenstrahlen. Die Stadt liegt auf 7 Hügeln, ich kann also jeden Tag einen besuchen.

We landed in Lisbon for my birthday holiday. I escaped the German winter weather and enjoy a few days here in the warm sunshine. The city is situated on 7 hills , so I can visit one each day.

For today's milestone birthday of a very good friend I found a perfect subject. It's  appropriate and historically relevant for us. I hope the old man (sic!) is happy celebrating without me... have fun!

Neben den quadratischen mag ich auch besonders die extrem hohen oder breiten Formate. Heute gibt es ein 90 x 30 cm Bild eine nordamerikanische abendliche Straßenszene im Regen. Nein, ich habe das Bild nicht im Regen gemalt.

Waterproof

In addition to the mostly square formats, I particularly love extremely high or wide formats. Today I painted a North American evening street scene in the rain. No, I didn't paint it in the rain.

Fantasy Landscape III

I have started to paint over old and amho not-very-good images. Sometimes interesting shapes or colors occur while re-priming the canvas. And sometimes a real unreal landscape evolves.
