Waldfrühling

Gestern las ich in unserer Tageszeitung von jemandem, der froh ist, dass die Sonne noch nicht so viel scheint. Schließlich brächte die Sonne den ganzen Winterdreck in der Wohnung, die Schlieren und den Staub auf dem Fenstern zum Vorschein. 
Recht hat er: Zum Frühjahrsputz habe ich auch noch überhaupt keine Lust. 
So muss ich mir den frühlingshaften Spaziergang im von der Sonne beschienenen zartgrünen Wald eben vorerst noch selber malen.

Spring Forest
Yesterday somebody in our newspaper told us that he is happy about the lack of sunshine. Well, finally the sun shows all the winter's filth in the apartment, the dirt and dust on the windows and so on. He's right. Me too, I have no desire for spring cleaning. So I had to paint that springtime walk in the sunlit tender green forest and still hope for rain and snow.

Das Dorf der Gehenkten

In der Bibliothek habe ich heute ein Buch über Cezanne ausgeliehen. Dort fand ich sein »Haus des Gehängten«, welches er in der ersten »Impressionisten«-Ausstellung in Paris zeigte. Dieses erinnerte mich an eines meiner Fotos, welches ich schon lange als Vorlage in meinem »Könnte-man-mal-malen-Archiv« habe. »Impressionist« war übrigens ursprünglich ein ironisch gemeintes Schimpfwort, das die betroffenen Künstler gar nicht so gern hörten.

The Village of the Hanged
Today I borrowed a book about Cezanne in the library. It shows as one masterpiece his »Hanged Man's House«. It was his painting for the first »Impressionists« exhibition in Paris. The motif reminded me of one of my photos, which I have since long as a template in my "Could-be-painted-archive". Btw »Impressionist« originally was meant in an ironic and insulting context.

Die Weck-Amseln plärren tirilieren. Streunende Katzen schaben ihr Winterfell an den Zäunen ab. Und sogar die Post kommt ausnahmsweise pünktlich. Es muss wohl an der Sonne liegen.

The wake-up blackbirds trill. Stray cats scrape off their winter fur under the fences and even the postman delivers just in time. Blame it on the sun.

Aquaedukt

Ganz unscheinbar schiebt sich das Bild eines Aquädukts in meinen Kopf. Das habe ich natürlich gleich gemalt. Dieses befndet sich auf den Azoren auf der grünen Insel Sao Miguel.

heißt auf deutsch einfach »Steckrübe«. 

In Germany it's called »Steckrübe« which is translated to »plug turnip«. In AE its »rutabaga« which derives from the Swedish word »Rotabagge«. Whereas in Sweden it's called »Kålrot«. Dig it?

ist ein asiatisches Brettspiel, was man in San Franciscos Chinatown gerne mal unter einem schattigen Baum spielt. 
Es ist ein »Umzingelungsspiel«, was man ja auch deutlich auf dem Bild sieht.


Go is an Asian board game which is played often in San Francisco's Chinatown under a shady tree. It is an "encircling game" what you can easily spot in my painting.

Roof fillet of hare in the mud-hazelnut crust in dialogue with blue virgin Vichy carrots, served with  spicy herbal flirtatious Teri-yaki sauce and sexy shaped potato pears? Nope. Just a pine tree. But you can tell already that I'm hungry, right?

Strange Rover

Seltsame Farbpalette, die ich da gerade benutze. Im Grunde sind es aber nur Karminrot, Dunkelblau, Lichter Ocker, Sonnengelb plus Weiß, die sich hier mischen.
Der Geländewagen sah ebenfalls etwas seltsam aus, mit einem Aufbau, der an einen Planwagen erinnert.

Strange color palette that I use right now. Basically, it's just crimson, dark blue, yellow ocher, sunset yellow plus white in the mix. The SUV also looked a bit odd, with a construction which reminds me of a covered wagon.

Wie einst die Trapper in den Zeiten des Wilden Westens geht es heute auf tapsigen Pfoten den Weg durch die Büsche zum See. Hinter jedem Baum könnte ein Büffel lauern (und macht es auch).

Ups, das ist ja gar nicht von Stromberg, musste ich erfahren. Sondern von Charlotte Amalie Grimm. Wer jetzt an die Brüder denkt, hat recht. Es ist die kleine Schwester, deren Märchen von den Chauvi-Brüdern wegen der feministischen Diktion nicht in die bekannte Sammlung übernommen wurde. Wieder was gelernt.

Puerto Naos

Noch einmal Palmen auf La Palma. Bei unserem Besuch im November war der Strand nur eine Großbaustelle. Inzwischen dürfte die Strandpromenade restauriert und neu gestaltet sein.

Früher gab es bei uns in der Schule das Müllräumkommando, wo jeder Schüler von Zeit zu Zeit gemeinsam mit seinem Tischnachbarn und mit einer komischen Greifzange bewaffnet über das gesamte Schulgelände ziehen musste. das hat natürlich gar nichts mit dem heutigen Hofdienst zu tun, der einfach nur eine besonders schöne kanadische Farm zeigt.
Ich habe diesmal einen kleinen Vogel. (Also versteckt. Im Bild.)

Yard Service
There used to be a trash clearing commando in my early schooldays, where every student had perform funny stunts with a waste gripper on the schoolyard. 
Today's yard service of course has nothing to do with this, but shows just a very beautiful Canadian farm. There's a little bird hidden in the painting...
