Während er durch die Straßen schlenderte, schwirrten Commissaire Lunel dutzende Fragen durch seinen kantigen Schädel: War der Tod des Chauffeurs Alfonse durch die Autoabgase des Citroën DS nun ein Unfall, Selbstmord oder gar Mord? Was bedeutete der Geldkoffer auf dem Beifahrersitz? Warum wurden sie nicht bereits bei der Untersuchung des Falles vor 50 Jahren gefunden? Wieviel sind 3 Millionen alte Franc überhaupt in Euro? Warum kam ihm das Datum 21. Juli 1969 so bekannt vor? Wie hing das Ganze mit dem Raub beim Juwelier zusammen? Warum ging ihm die rothaarige Marie-Claire nicht aus dem Kopf? 

The long Silence

Confusing questions were buzzing through Commissaire Lunel's edgy skull: Chauffeur Alfonse's death by the exhausts of the Citroën DS. Accident, suicide or even murder? What about the money suitcase in the passenger seat? Why had it noct been found during the investigation of the case 50 years ago? How much are 3 million old francs in Dollars? Why was the date July 21, 1969 so familiar to him? What has this all to do with the gem raid ? And why does the red-headed Marie-Claire did not go out of his head?

1642 Le Village et le Chateau

Vor allem das auf einer Anhöhe über der Durance gelegene Schloss Mirabeau 

sowie der im Ort ansässige Juwelier waren weit über die Grenzen hinaus bekannt.

Filmstars und Politiker - vor allem aber romantisch veranlagte Brautpaare aus der Schicht der oberen Zehntausend liebten die nicht nur preislich phantasievollen Kreationen des Meister-Goldschmieds La Roque. Für Marie-Claire und Alfonse lagen solche Pretiosen natürlich weit über ihren finanziellen Möglichkeiten.  

Chateau Mirabeau was perfectly situated on a hill overlooking the river La Durance. 

Both, the castle and the city jeweler were known far beyond the departement's borders.Movie stars and politicians - and especially romantic assessed high society newlyweds loved the phantastic creations of master goldsmith La Roques.

For Marie-Claire and Alfonse such valuables were far beyond their financial possibilities.

Unter Kommissar Lunels Baskenmütze hob sich eine buschige Augenbraue und eine kühne Theorie schob sich unverhofft in seine Gedanken. »Sie wollen mir doch nicht allen Ernstes weißmachen, dass ihr Gatte nach dem tragischen Tod des Chauffeurs nie wieder nach dem Fahrzeug geschaut hat, Madame?« »Mais bien sûr, Monsieur le Commissaire. Alfonse konnte schließlich gar nicht selber fahren und ein Verkauf des Fahrzeugs kam für ihn selbstverständlich nicht in Frage.«

A bushy eyebrow raised under Commissioner Lunel's beret and a bold theory slid unexpectedly into his thoughts. »Are you kidding me, Madame? You seriously want to make me believe, that your husband never again had looked at the vehicle after the tragic death of your chauffeur, Madame?" "Mais bien sûr, Monsieur le Commissaire. Alfonse was finally not able to handle a car and of course a sale of the vehicle was out of the question.« To be continued...

1640 Die rothaarige Zeugin

Doch nur die sommersprossige Marie-Claire hatte den auffälligen Wagen vor dem Juweliergeschäft beobachtet. Der Rest des Departements hockte gebannt vor den wenigen Fernsehbildschirmen. Während sie missmutig gelaunt zur Bar Tabac geschlendert war, um Madame eine neue Packung Muratti Ambassador zu besorgen.

Es war der 21. Juli 1969.

The redheaded Witness

But only the freckled Marie-Claire had noticed the flashy car outside the jewelry store. The rest of the department sat glued to the few television screens. While she was strolling grumpy-mooded to the Bar Tabac to get a new pack of Muratti Ambassador for Madame. It was Sunday afternoon, July 21, 1969.

So könnte die Geschichte von gestern weitergehen.

(DS wird "déesse" im Französischen ausgesprochen, was "Göttin" heißt.)

In the garage a true goddess was waiting: A Citroën DS from 1967. In the passenger seat a suitcase with 3 million old francs was left behind. 

So yesterday's story could go on.

Kleiner Grund zum Feiern: Gestern hatte ich meinen 88.888igsten Besucher auf diesem Blog.

First Meeting

On Sunday Hannover had its first organized Urban Sketching meeting.

There's a story behind the title.

From the good old (golden) days of Loriot (a famous German comedy star).

Quick summary in English:

The interviewer asks the horror star Vic Dorn.

She: Who designed your mask? Could you take only once take off your mask? 

He: Designed? Take off? What mask?

This was funny when I was a kid and became a meme.

Ein Blick ins Land der in den letzten Tagen gemalten Oldtimer.
Ich finde es immer wieder beeindruckend, in Google Maps durch ferne Städte zu wandeln. So kann man sich zum Beispiel auf eine »virtuelle« Kreuzung stellen und dieses Bild malen.

Angeregt und inspiriert durch den aktuellen Aquarellkurs von Ingrid Buchthal in der Kunstfabrik Hannover (dem ich kurz als Beobachter beiwohnen durfte) habe ich heute eine Lampionblume als Motiv gewählt.

Encouraged and inspired by the watercolor course of Ingrid Buchenthal in the ArtFactory Hanover (which I was allowed to attend as an observer) I have chosen a physalis flower to be painted today.

Sie wurde mit den Illuminaten in Verbindung gebracht und spielt in vielen Verschwörungstheorien eine Rolle. Hier ist es die Hausnummer eines Hauses in L'Isle sur la Sorgue.

1625 Notan

»Notan« kommt aus dem Japanischen und heißt soviel wie »hell und dunkel«.

Dies ist auch eine gute Übung fürs Malen, indem man die Bilder in diese Werte zerlegt und somit ein Gleichgewicht der Bildelemente und eine harmonische Komposition erzielt.

»Notan« comes from Japanese and means something like »light and dark«.

This is a good exercise for painters. By bringing the images into only these two values you can try to achieve a balance of picture elements and a harmonious composition.

Der Schnee liegt immer noch auf den Ästen und lässt diese bei einigen Bäumen ob des Zusatzgewichtes bereits bedrohlich weit herunterhängen.

Seit gestern ist Hannover unter der weißen Pracht versteckt.

Beim Morgenspaziergang war es angenehm windstill.

So konnte ich zwei grobe Skizzen machen, die ich dann aber zu Hause fertiggestellt habe. Ohne Bewegung wird einem ja doch schnell kalt.

Besonders auffallend war der frische schwarze Maulwurfshügel auf dem weißen Schnee. Guckt da nicht sogar einer raus?

Snow-Mobile

Since yesterday Hannover is hidden under the magnificent white.

On my morning walk, it was pleasantly windless.

So I could make two rough sketches, which I then completed at home. 

Stand motionless and you will feel frostbitten soon.

Particularly striking was the fresh black molehill on the white snow.

Puuh, zwei mal 2 Stunden bei der boesner Vorführung übers Skizzieren nonstop berichtet und ein paar Skizzen vorgemalt. War anstrengend, beide Gehirnhälften (die denkende und die kreative) zusammenarbeiten zu lassen ;)

Heute ist meine Vorführung zum Urban Sketching bei boesner Hannover und ich bin schon ganz aufgeregt. Ich habe dutzende Bilder geübt und fürchte, ich werde gar nicht so viel zeigen können, wie ich möchte. Nun aber rasch noch ein Bild vom Raschplatz in Hannover.

Wow, I'm very excited. Today is presentation at my urban sketching workshop. I did dozens of sketches in advance for practice but I am afraid I will not be able to show as much as I'd like. So a quick sketch of the Raschplatz in Hannover ("rasch" means quick in German :)
